By now you've probably all seen at least a few episodes from the various DC shows on the CW (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow) or Fox (Gotham) as well as other comic book properties (iZombie, Supergirl, Lucifer). Although your opinion may be that one specific show is superior than another, it doesn't change the fact that thanks to these networks we're seeing some of our favorite characters finally portrayed on screen.

This is the beauty of what is being developed across the board — with the surge of superheroes on screen and, quite honestly, the success of non-hero television shows like The Walking Dead (AMC), Fear The Walking Dead (AMC) and Dark Matter (SyFy) we are seeing an upheaval of titles being sent to production and development. With all the potential out there, I thought it would useful to take a look at what we know about 7 comic book based series that are on their way to a television or streaming service near you.

1. Preacher (AMC)

Premiering May 2016

This is probably one of the most anticipated series' of late, coming from Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics. We find the main character, Reverend Jesse Custer go on a rampage of sorts after gaining amazing powers and learning that God had actually bailed on Heaven.

Starring: Dominic Cooper (Agent Carter), Joseph Gilgun (Misfits), Tom Brooke (Pirate Radio), Ruth Negga (Agents of SHIELD)

2. Krypton (SyFy)

In Development

There's not much known about this Superman prequel, outside of the fact that it will take place on the Man of Steel's home-world before it, ya know blows up. The assumption is that it will most likely follow along the lines of a Gotham-esque series that looks at the politics and plots that led to Krypton's destruction.

Starring: None announced

3. The Infinite Horizon (TBD)

In Development

Produced by the same mind behind Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, Greg Berlanti, The Infinite Horizon comes from Image Comics. The story follows the Soldier With No Name as he seeks to disappear into obscurity and return home. His quest is littered with shipwrecks, fights and just about everything else you can imagine in a near future setting.

Starring: None announced

4. Outcast (Cinemax)

Premieres June 2016

Created by one of the minds behind The Walking Dead, Outcast follows Kyle Barnes who goes on a search for answers. These answers lead him towards horrific answers that could possibly explain why, as a young child, he suffered repeatedly from demonic possession.

Starring: Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous), Wrenn Schmidt (Our Idiot Brother), Philip Glenister (Life on Mars)

5. Unfollow (ABC)

Currently scripting

Another entity from Vertigo Comics, Unfollow looks at the story of a random group of 140 people selected through social media to potentially inherit the massive wealth of a social media magnate. Forced to compete for the cash via a new app, the unsuspecting group is forced to battle for survival.

Starring: None announced

6. Hellfire (Fox)

In Development

This one was a bit of a surprise (along with it's counterpart Legion on FX), as the announcement that Marvel and 20th Century Fox had partnered to develop a pair of shows that followed the X-Men titles. Hellfire is going to be set in the late '60s and will follow a special agent who follows a woman, power-hungry and with extraordinary abilities, who is working with a clandestine society of millionaires, known as "The Hellfire Club."

Starring: None announced

7. Brooklyn Animal Control (USA)

In Development

Based on the IDW comic of the same name, the show follows the interactions of a secret subdivision of the NYPD that provides services to werewolves, and is intertwined with the crime families in New York.

Starring: Stephen Graham (Snatch), Jane Alexander (Cider House Rules, The Ring), Clea DuVall (Argo, The Faculty), James Callis (Battlestar Galactica)
