These 7 Fantastic Shows Need to Make a Comeback Asap
The following are some examples of fantastic shows that must have a comeback soon.
Fans of the beloved NBC hit, #WillAndGrace were treated to the spectacular news that the series is set to return to television for a special 10-episode run. This news, plus the recent revival of such fan favorites as #FullHouse and #TheGilmoreGirls got me thinking about those glorious shows of yesteryear. There are many that believe certain shows should stay in the past and be enjoyed by consumers the way the initial run intended. To that I say, "Hey, if they want to venture back into what worked, all the more power to them!" +6
The following are some examples of fantastic shows that must have a comeback soon, whether it be a reboot, extra season or whatever else the television gods/execs conjure up. This isn't to say the series would somehow be better off by creating new seasons, it would just be fun to see what our favorite characters have been up to since their respective finales.
1. '3rd Rock From The Sun'
- Initial Run: 1996–2001
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: 3rd Rock From The Sun followed the hysterical journey of a band of merry aliens who beam down to Earth in order to experience life as human beings. The series featured amazing chemistry between both the core group and the numerous secondary characters. Every episode was chock full of hilarious moments and it would be interesting to see them beam back to our world and see how our technology now stacks up to theirs. Plus, it never hurts seeing more #JosephGordonLevitt.
2. 'Are You Afraid Of The Dark?'
- Initial Run: 1990–1996; 1999–2000
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: Are You Afraid Of The Dark? scared the everliving pants off arguably every child that watched the series. From the very beginning of the theme song with that creepy-ass clown to the end title credits, the series followed the kids of The Midnight Society who hung out in the woods after dark and told scary stories.
If that is not a prime concept for a reboot, I have no idea what is. The series may have had a one season revival from 1999–2000, however a lot has changed in 17 years, and that revival strayed away from the initial established format, which turned some people off. Seeing a whole new group of kids come together and tell horror tales from the modern age would be interesting to watch. Who knows — maybe #RyanGosling could make a cameo in one of the stories.
3. 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air'
Initial Run: 1990–1996
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: Firstly, everyone knows the lyrics to the theme song of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, right? If #WillSmith is able to revert back to his Fresh Prince title for a few hours, he will easily come up with a similarly catchy tune for this hypothetical reboot and then we'll have two Fresh Prince themes to jam out to!
The chemistry between Smith and every single member of the Banks family made the series incredibly enjoyable to watch. It would be difficult to imagine the series without the great James Avery, who passed in 2013. However, since the chemistry between the cast is so tight, we would be happy to just watch them go about their day-to-day lives and see what kind of shenanigans characters will get up to. There also has to be dancing, too. The dance sequences during the show are simply wonderful.
4. 'Daria'
- Initial Run: 1997–2001
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: Watching #Daria do anything is guaranteed to be immensely enjoyable. An advantage to bringing back everyone's favorite sarcastic teenager is that the series can be set during any time and no one needs to be older or wiser. Although, I would give anything to see what Daria thinks about the current state of the political world. There was a live-action Daria "movie trailer" done by CollegeHumor back in 2013 that saw #AubreyPlaza play the titular role and made me miss the series more than I can explain!
See the live-action trailer below:
5. 'Freaks And Geeks'
- Initial Run: 1999–2000
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: The series where you are guaranteed to recognize at least one famous person make an appearance was tragically canceled after one season. Freaks And Geeks followed the beautifully mundane teenaged lives of Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini) and many others including Daniel Desario (James Franco), Ken Miller (Seth Rogen) and Nick Andopolis (Jason Segel).
The series has developed a cult following throughout the years and its stars have gone on to become stupendously successful, so we have to find out whether their characters have experienced such success 17 years later! The cast reunited in 2013 for Vanity Fair and they all look exactly the same, so it can be done.
6. 'Malcolm In The Middle'
Initial Run: 2000–2006
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: Malcolm In The Middle introduced audiences to a functionally dysfunctional family and (for seven seasons) we got to experience life through the eyes of Malcolm (Frankie Muniz). The series had countless memorable moments that made you laugh hysterically one second and warm your heart the next. The cast worked amazingly well together and father of the family, #BryanCranston has mentioned he would be down to revisit the lovable gang once again:
"It’s been 10 years since we went off the air and it’d be fun to pick up that guy’s clothes again and be fun and sweet and adorable and hapless and clueless and afraid of everything.”
We would love to see you pick up his clothes and be fun and sweet and adorable again as well, Bryan. Oh how we hope!
7. 'Pushing Daisies'
Initial Run: 2007–2009
Why It Needs To Make A Comeback: Another example of a series that ended much too soon, Pushing Daisies was a brilliantly original series that boasted a bright and vibrant world and featured characters you genuinely fell in love with. The series was a critical hit, winning seven Primetime Emmy Awards and developing a diehard fanbase since its cancellation. Pushing Daisies managed to beat out fan favorite #Firefly in Esquire's "TV Reboot Tournament" in 2015 and is consistently mentioned in top "TV Shows Cancelled Too Soon" lists. Give the people what they want, ABC! BRING US BACK TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF PIE-MAKING AT THE PIE HOLE!
For The Hell Of It, Let's Mention 'Friends,' Too
The series ran for 10 seasons and the cast will be asked for a reunion for the rest of their lives, so just please give it to us, damn it!
What series would you want to see make a comeback?
