When a new movie or TV show gets released, its success largely depends on the reactions of the public. Whether an audience loves or hates a film will determine the box office performance, spin-off or sequel potentials, and merch sales. If the show is extremely successful, a fandom will obsesses over every detail of the work.

You don’t have to be a super knowledgeable about the latest cinematic release in order to appreciate the fandoms. These fans not only possess an incredible amount of knowledge about their favorite shows, they also use their talents to produce beautiful art inspired by characters or plot lines. These art pieces can range from incredible paintings to creative t-shirts to full spin-off novels.

While each fanbase comes up with incredible creations, there are some groups that are simply more dedicated than others. Some are willing to spend hours outside a theatre, no matter the weather, while others wouldn’t mind waiting a few days to get a ticket for a new release. So exactly which fanbases are the most loyal to their franchises?

Potterheads

When the first Harry Potter book was released in 1997, JK Rowling likely did not imagine this fanbase developing to the extent it has today. The series has since produced seven novels, eight movies, a theme park, countless companion novels, and much more. Potterheads all have a specific house they are sorted in, which divides the fandom in four very distinct categories. The house is not something you can guess or self select, you must take a quiz to determine which house you truly would be sorted in to (and it apparently doesn’t count unless you take the official Pottermore quiz).

Warsies

Much like Potterheads, Star Wars fans have a lot to work with— nine films and counting to be exact. They also can visit their favorite galactic galaxy in a section of Walt Disney World and Disney Land (in California now or in Florida starting in August 2019). Fans love to celebrate this franchise year-round, but especially annually on May 4th which has been deemed ‘Star Wars Day’— inspired by the famous phrase “may the force be with you.” Large cities often host Star Wars conventions periodically, which encourage attendees to dress up as their favorite characters and mingle with other enthusiasts.

Trekkies

Following the futuristic, star-themed franchises is Star Trek, a film that while may have been released nearly 60 years ago, has not lost any of its appeal. There are a whopping fourteen films and seven television series that make up this franchise, meaning that anyone dedicated to this series has invested a lot of time keeping up with their favorite out-of-this-world adventures. These shows have become so relevant, with the help of their loyal fan base, that Star Trek has become a household name still to this day, and the theme song has likely gotten stuck in your head at least once even if you’ve never seen the films.

Twihards

Are you Team Jacob or Team Edward? Twilight, like most series, started as a novel in 2005 and was developed into a film just three years later. This franchise captured the hearts of a younger fanbase, starring teenage heartthrobs Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The classic vampire versus werewolves storyline may not have sparked any rides or theme parks, but it did lead to long lines outside of movie theatres and bookstores with each premiere.

Honorary mention goes out to Ghostheads of Ghostbusters, Finaddicts of Jaws and Ringers of Lord of the Rings. It goes without saying that people are very passionate about their favorite movies and these enthusiasts play a large role in the franchise’s overall success.
