After a long day of work or class, one of the best ways to relax is to cozy up on your couch with your favorite television show. Whatever that show may be, it provides you with a sense of comfort, and allows you to unwind.

We tend to be extremely loyal to our favorite shows. We know every small detail about the characters and plot lines, and anxiously await new episodes and season premieres. And when the show gets taken off the air, we feel a pit in our stomachs, wondering what we’ll do in our free time after the season ends.

Luckily, reboots and revivals are becoming more common in modern television. While all good things must eventually come to an end, who’s to say they can’t come back for an extra season or two? A new study from AAG shows that retired TV shows go off the air for an average of 17 years before revival, so by the time it comes back, fans have certainly earned points for patience.

When these iconic shows are finally brought back to life, it’s a sure bet that it will not be the same as the original series. For better or for worse, something is likely to change in the cast, story line, or delivery platform that will have to be adapted to. While sometimes these changes work in the series’ favor to modernize the content, other times the series may have been better left off air.

No matter how incredible the original series was, some reboots simply aren’t worth your time. These revivals however, are our favorites of all time…

'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life'

Originally run for six years in the early 2000s, fans fell in love with Lorelai, Rory, and their home in Stars Hollow. Thus, when Netflix announced a four episode series sequel featuring their favorite cast, fans had every right to get excited! While a lot was left unresolved, we appreciate that this series was kept short and sweet, not overdone or drawn out.

'Queer Eye'

Originally launched in 2003 on Bravo, this 2018 Netflix original series has taken off, and quickly gained popularity among a wide audience. This heartfelt reboot is on its third season of ‘more than makeovers’, and has captured the hearts of viewers and critics alike, winning several major awards.

'Hawaii Five-O'

Few TV shows are able to survive as long as this action series has. Hawaii Five-O ran from 1968 to 1980, and is still on-air, since its re-launch in 2010. A recent renewal announced by CBS will make the upcoming series the franchise’s 22nd, meaning that fans can rest easy knowing their Friday nights will remain routine for at least another year.

'Girl Meets World'

While most reboots target an older audience who was loyal to the original show, some attempt to go in a different direction in hopes of expanding the fan base. Girl Meets World did exactly that by airing a three year spin-off of the classic ABC sitcom, Boy Meets World, on Disney Channel. The series premiere captured over five million viewers, most of which were not even born when the original Boy Meets World was on TV.

'Will & Grace'

After a decade off-air, this NBC comedy returned to television in 2017 better than ever. The original cast seemed to effortlessly pick up where they left off, and fans loved that the series stayed true to its roots despite the years passed.

With every incredible remake, there are a handful of series who slightly missed the mark. Though there are fans and critics of every series, we appreciate the Hollywood producers and directors attempting to please their fans who were heartbroken when their favorite series went off-air.
