Things Not to Do When Starting to Watch a Show

When You Get Bored of Watching Your Usual

Ever since Netflix became something that everyone enjoys people would have to sit down and watch the movie they wanted to see. However, since Netflix boomed with popularity they started to make their own shows and movies. There are a few things to keep in mind when watching these shows or when you are starting a new series.

  1. Never judge by the first episode. I believe this should be a rule that everyone knows. You never ever judge a show with the first episode. There are a few reasons why: the actors are still getting to know the characters and how the character behaves and their mannerisms. They might not nail it the first time they try being that particular character. The writers are possibly in the same boat, they need to try what works with the audience and what doesn't. I usually watch the first three episodes and if by then I do not like it, I watch something else. When watching The Office the first time I thought I would not enjoy it, then by the third one I was hooked because the game changed.
  2. Acting. Sometimes when starting a new show I find that the acting is awkward and terrible. Everything that the characters says seems monotone and they just do not know what they are doing. I started watching Arrow and I could not feel his emotions they were all horizontal, but then as the show progressed Stephen Amell got a lot better as the seasons and episodes progressed. Also, if you have ever watched the first couple of seasons on Survivor the host Jeff Probst he is really shy and does not talk as much as he does now. He gained more confidence and more camera friendly in the the later seasons.
  3. Stranger Things. I know everyone right now is watching it and freaking out about the child actors. Do not get me wrong I think they are really great in this new show, but I watched the first season on Stranger Things and I can't watch anymore because of how real and horrifying it is. For me this show is too real, so I can't watch it. I have had nightmares where there is another dimension that's filled with weird creatures. I do like how it takes place in a different timeline than our own. Yet, I watched the entire first season because everyone was talking about it. Just because it is popular does not mean it is for you. Not all shows are for you even if your friends obsess over it.
  4. New Girl. This show is not for everyone, but it is for me. I have re-watched twice already and I am on my third run. The situations are awkward and that's what makes it so enjoyable. I also feel connected to most of the characters that are on the show. The situations in which these characters get into are ones which I can see myself getting into. Watching shows that are relatable are also very fun to watch. I find that Jess is a very likable and positive person, which I can relate to. The show however, has a rating of 6.3 which is not the best, yet I love to watch it. So keep in mind that just because it has a lower rating does not mean you will not enjoy it.
  5. Binge watching. Binge watching is a very big trend right now. But if you watch everything right now then what are you going to do? Waiting for more seasons from your show is hard to do, so pace yourself. I like shows such as Sherlock and these types shows have long episodes and that helps me so much in pacing myself because they are so long the wait is also long, so the less I watch the less I have to wait. I watch one once a month or once a week depending on my mood. Shows like Riverdale and Flash that have episodes coming out every week are also better for you, so you are not procrastinating.
