By now you've likely seen the trailer that was released for Thor: Ragnarok during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel during San Diego Comic Con celebrations. And although there were countless incredible scenes through the trailer, likely one thing stuck out: The conversation between Hulk and Thor. If you haven't seen it, check it out below.

So there it is, a legitimate speaking line for #Hulk that isn't just a bellowing roar or the word "smash." Fans are rightfully losing their shit about it, because, up to this point in the MCU, the Hulk has always been a green rage monster without any legitimate conversation skills—which doesn't showcase the intelligent side he has always sported in the source material.

Yet, if Mark Ruffalo's comments are to believed, then Thor: Ragnarok is the beginning of a new chapter for the Hulk which will drastically alter how the Hulk interacts with the Marvel Cinematic Universe overall. #ThorRagnarok director Taiki Waititi explained to IGN why the choice to give the Hulk dialogue was slightly personal, but also very deliberate.

The Hulk speaks his mind, finally!

Even though the Hulk has traditionally been the least conversational Avenger in the films, there is a history of the character speaking throughout the comics, and #TaikaWaititi felt that it was time to see that side of the Hulk on screen:

I was always fascinated by the duality of Hulk and Banner, and seeing how their brains could be interconnected. Could we sometimes see Hulk and could we have a bit of Banner's voice in there? Could we see Banner and have Hulk's personality through there?

The Jekyll and Hyde duality is an aspect to the Banner/Hulk nature that fans have wondered about for years, and through the #MCU we've seen this conflict arise between the Hulk and Bruce Banner, starting in 2012's The Avengers. Yet, Waititi reveals that this dynamic is going to be on display in a new way during Ragnarok:

I think in this film we're going to see that for the first time, where the two are fighting - really fighting this time - for control of the body.

The Hulk's conversational skills, although fairly limited, definitely opens the MCU up to a new world where Banner and Hulk can have control over their emotions and not require rage to force the transformation into the green fighting machine.
