We can all relate to this one tragic question that has plagued humanity since the dawn of time; what is there to watch next? I hate nothing more than finishing a show I’ve invested countless hours on, only to look for another show that seems just as interesting. So I’ve composed this list of shows that are binge-worthy. More specifically, the top five best binge-worthy shows. Hopefully, this list helps you find your next big show. So let’s begin!
Firefly is one of those perfect shows that got cancelled way too early due to the studio’s lack of faith in it. It’s only 14 episodes long, but they were so good that the creators and fans managed to make a movie concluding the story. So this spot in the list is basically a show and a movie combined. You’re welcome, random reader I’ve never met, but I am grateful you’re reading this article. Anyhow, Firefly is a space/western drama that follows Malcolm Reynolds. He’s a smuggler that captains a firefly class ship named Serenity. The story is intriguing, the characters are likable, there’s fantastic humor, and tons of quotable lines of dialogue. Imagine if Han Solo from Star Wars had a show and whatever popped in your head is most likely how Firefly is. When you watch this show, you just get the feeling that nobody can take the skies from you. So do yourself a favor and go watch these gems of entertainment.
4. 'Sons of Anarchy'
At first I was very hesitant about watching this show. I never really knew why, but after watching it I can say it’s one of the best dramas out there. Sons of Anarchy follows the Redwood Original branch of the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club. The club deals guns, fights against rival gangs, and there’s a lot of inner tension among some of the club members. Each season builds off the previous one perfectly, until the show concluded in its seventh season. I felt like the show constantly hooked me for what felt like the first time, each time. I never thought I would enjoy watching semi-racist white trash bikers, but I found myself really caring for the characters. So much so, I even made an article discussing the Top 10 Sons of Anarchy Characters. Trust me, if you take one ride on this amazing show, you’ll never stop until the last credits roll.
3. 'Game of Thrones'
This is the only show on this list that is still airing episodes, but it is on its final season. So technically by the time you catch up, the final season probably would be over and you can finish binging it anyway. I’m sure you probably already have seen Game of Thrones because it’s all anyone ever talks about in regards to the best shows of all time. Thus, I’m not really going to spend too much time on this spot since there’s nothing I can say that someone else hasn’t already said about it. Game of Thrones is marketed as being cool due to the dragons and ice zombie creatures, but what will really hook you is the actual game of thrones. The best way to describe it is that you’re watching people play a really intense game of chess. You never really know what’s going to happen next, therefore you’re always going to be shocked by what does actually happen. I will recommend watching this with someone since it’s a much more fun experience when you can theorize and discuss what’s happening on the show. Game of Thrones is one of my favorite shows, one of the best shows out there, and a show you should definitely watch if you haven’t already. Just bring a box of tissues, you might need them.
Like Firefly, Daredevil is a show that got cancelled due to nonsensical reasons. This Netflix original is three seasons of pure perfection. I cannot tell you one negative thing about this show. The storytelling is engaging, the characters are interesting, the villains are menacing, the action is badass, the cinematography is beautiful, the acting is Oscar worthy, the episodes are never boring, and lastly, this show is meant to be binged. I have proudly dedicated two articles to this show and consider one of my favorite shows out there. Nothing I say will fully convey how urgently you need to watch this show if you haven’t already. You just have to watch it to know how great it really is. Fun fact, Daredevil is connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s unclear if Disney will ever bring Daredevil back in either another show or an Avengers movie, but hopefully, they do something with this character. Who knows, but I am happy the show at least ended with three fantastic seasons.
1. 'Breaking Bad'
In my opinion, this is one of those timeless shows. There’s a lot of great shows, yet you can always pick out something you didn’t fully like, well not here. Breaking Bad hits all the best notes and manages to remain constantly great. It’s only five seasons long which isn’t too long and not too short. We follow Walter White, a chemistry teacher that is diagnosed with cancer and becomes a drug kingpin in order to set up his family after he dies. The one thing that really struck me my first watching it is that everything is important. Something insignificant can happen in season two and become the biggest game changer in season four. That alone really illustrates that everyone writing this show had a clear story they wanted to tell. Another cool thing about Breaking Bad is that it will keep you guessing until the very end. Nothing is predictable, and if you think you managed to predict something, Breaking Bad will take you to school and show you what good television really is.
I gushed over Daredevil a lot, but believe it or not, I think Breaking Bad is a far superior show. So take everything I said about Daredevil, double it, and you’ll have Breaking Bad. It’s my favorite show and consists of my favorite series finale of any show ever. Everyone involved with Breaking Bad really committed to creating the best quality product and you can feel it in every episode. If you’re one of the people who hasn’t seen Breaking Bad, it’s urgent that this is the next show you binge. I’ll bet all my money it’ll hook you like Walter’s meth hooks junkies. It’s probably just as addicting too. Just sit back and enjoy the show!
