Each season I tend to try to watch around five to ten new anime that have come out. It's a great way to find something to watch in my spare time while also I have found some of my all time favorite anime that way. Here are some of the anime I picked last fall that I took a chance on and found some hidden gems along the way.

1. 'The Ancient Magus' Bride' ('Mahoutsukai no Yome')

This has got to be the best discovery I made last fall when I was looking into what new anime to start. I fell in love with the story, artwork, music, and basically everything about it. I have still yet to complete it as it is still currently airing but it is just so amazing. The relationship between Chise Hatori and Elias Ainsworth is so touching and fun to watch grow. Seeing them interact with each other as well as on their own as they try to come to terms with their new situation and growing feelings is such an interesting experience. I give this a 10/10 and strongly recommend you take some time to watch this.

2. 'Recovery of an MMO Junkie' ('Net-juu no Susume')

I just recently started watching this one and I really enjoyed it. It actually got me into playing MMOs (which now I can't stop playing so maybe it wasn't a good thing). It was interesting to see the steps Moriko Morioka took when deciding to become a NEET after she becomes unemployed. I also loved the gender bending that happens with their characters in each MMO world and how their personality was still the same with each different character they had created. If you are looking for a lighthearted comedy about MMOs, give this anime a watch.

3. 'Land of the Lustrous' ('Houseki no Kuni')

This was a very interesting pick. I initially picked this out because I was intrigued by the use CG animation. It takes the concept of humanity and it breaks it down in a very interesting way. Everything is so mysterious about this anime. We follow the race of Gems, focusing on the character development of Phophophyllite, only for the anime to get cut off when we are at the climax of her story. It was incredibly disappointing and I'm really hoping there is a second season as I have so many unanswered questions but I have no regrets as the anime was still very entertaining a beautifully put together.

4. 'Anime-Gataris'

This anime I watched because I thought the concept of the anime was very interesting. It's centered around a high school girl, Minoa Asagaya, who can't forget a particular scene she saw in an anime when she was young. She seeks out help from her fellow classmates who are more well versed in the world of anime than she is to find out where that scene she loves so much originated from. It's a comedy that makes fun of the tropes seen in anime while also showing why people love anime. It was definitely a very fun watch and the ending is something you would not expect at all.

5. 'Re:Creators'

Even though this anime didn't technically air in the fall of 2017, I still had to mention it on this list as I didn't pick up until it finished airing in mid-September (which is already fall for me). I happened to binge-watch this anime and I have no regrets. I cried, I laughed, it has landed a top spot on my list of anime I have ever watched. It centers around Souta Mizushino, a high school student who aspires to be a creator, writing, and illustrating his own light novel. Suddenly, as he is watching one of his favorite anime, he is transported in the fight scene and ends up getting transported back to reality but with Celestia Yupitilia, the heroine of the anime.

The anime takes an interesting take on what we have seen multiple times where characters get transported into video games or fantasy worlds but turns it on its head and does the opposite. The world of creators and creations begins to collide and our interpretations of the stories themselves begin to change.

If you are looking for anything to watch, I say give one of these a watch and let me know what you think!
