Top 5 OTP In Pop Culture Today

While watching a show, movie, or reading a book, you might find yourself drawn to a particular couple — one that you sit there and hope and pray that they will end up together in the end. They make you happy and may make you actually believe that true love can exist. This couple is usually known in fandoms as an OTP, or One True Pairing. Many people get passionate over their favorite pairings, and many debates and arguments have sprung up over them across the internet and among friends for years. Here are some of the most popular, and in my opinion, best pairings in pop culture today.

5. Harmony (Harry and Hermione): The Harry Potter Series

Though this does sound like an odd choice, while reading the books I honestly didn't see Hermione lasting with Ron in the long run. While the fire and ice aspect can be interesting, it came off as rather an annoyance rather than passion on her part. With Harry there was a mutual love and respect between the two of them, even when they were just becoming friends. Both helped the other to gain confidence and praised each other, standing by one another when it seemed like the world was going to end.

Harry, too, ending up with Ginny seemed out of the blue to me. While they had great interactions in Chamber of Secrets, they had very little interaction outside of the group dynamic. Suddenly, he found himself attracted to his best friend's little sister. I found his friendship with Hermione and their progression far more interesting and believable, though I do have a soft spot for the idea of him and Luna as well

Even author J. K. Rowling has stated that she regrets pairing Ron with Hermione in hindsight:

"I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That's how it was conceived, really," Rowling says in the interview. "For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.I know, I'm sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I'm absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people's hearts by saying this? I hope not."

Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the film, agreed as well:

"I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy."

4. The Joker and Harley Quinn: Batman DC Universe

Yes, we all know that The Joker is abusive. We all know that they are both crazy. But the pairing of Harley and The Joker has always been an interesting one to me. Here is a woman who is incredibly intelligent but against her better judgment she falls for the most dangerous man in Gotham. He abuses her and tricks her often, but there are some instances where it seems as though he has a tiny bit of a soft spot for her. Their's is a twisted relationship, and because of that it draws attention. Every girl likes the bad boy — the project they have to fix — and The Joker and this relationship seems to epitomize that ideal. Even though in the current comics they are split, they will always be the Clown Prince and Princess of Crime to me

3. Olicity (Oliver and Felicity): Arrow

Felicity is that girl that gives all the nerdy, awkward girls hope. As someone who doesn't always have a filter on what she says and can be incredibly clumsy and off beat, I relate to Felicity and how she is wonderfully portrayed. She is someone who isn't strong but still important to Team Arrow. She doesn't fight or have weapons, but even when she is put in danger she knows that at the end of the day Oliver will be there to pick her up. The two actors have an incredible chemistry and great respect for each other, which you can see whenever they speak about each other. Their relationship has grown beautifully over the past few seasons of Arrow. While they aren't together at the moment, I still hold hope that they will find each other again, with Felicity rejoining the team and them having the wedding that they deserve.

2. Klamille (Camille and Klaus): The Originals

This pairing has caused a lot of controversy in The Originals fandom and its sister show The Vampire Diaries. Not because it is a bad pairing per say, but because of the rift it caused and the ensuing ship wars. However, the pairing is fascinating and oddly similar to that of The Joker and Harley: Two broken and battered souls find each other — one playing therapist to the other. Both have known loss and heartache in their past and experienced abuse from their father figures. They confide in each other, and Klaus really only ever seems to listen to Camille's requests. He respects her on an intellectual level and treats her as an equal, and if you know anything about Klaus Mikaelson you know that he doesn't do that lightly.

She is drawn into his dark side, willing to listen and be there. She has saved him before — which is more than others can say — and when they fight you can see the passion. They already act like an old married couple and she is the ONLY woman to whom Klaus has actually said the words: "I love you," no matter how many pairings he has been involved in during his time on two different shows. They are a perfect yin and yang — the darkness and the light — and a pairing that I have enjoyed from the beginning.

1. Captainswan (Captain Hook and Emma Swan): Once Upon a Time

This pairing is everything that an OTP should be: They started off rocky, Emma not knowing if she could trust him. They have had so many obstacles to overcome and still more to deal with, but with each passing adventure they are being brought closer together. Hook, a pirate who was only out for himself, even gave up his ship, his home, and livelihood, so that he could bring Emma back home to her family.

Emma has always been a guarded character, but Hook worked hard to gain her trust and eventually she found herself in him — a kinship that can only be considered true love, which is a big theme on Once Upon a Time. These two will go to the ends of the earth and the depths of the Underworld for each other, and if that isn't something that pulls at your heartstrings I don't know what will.
