In New York? See these!

My first broadway show I saw was Wicked when I was 11 years old. Ever since then I’ve been in love with them ever since. In total I’ve seen 12 different shows. I haven’t seen as many broadway shows as I would’ve liked to by now but out of the ones I have seen these are my top 6.

1. 'Aladdin'

This was surprisingly my all time favorite broadway show I’ve ever seen. Growing up as a Disney kid I watched the movie Aladdin plenty of times. I always liked the movie however it was never my favorite. I decided to see the show on broadway to relive my childhood for a day and boy am I glad I went. The show was fantastic. The costumes and set was remarkable and the genie was hilarious.

2. 'Wicked'

Wicked comes in as a close second when it comes to deciding my favorite show. I’ve seen this show three times and I would hands down go see it again. The soundtrack is wonderful and the storyline is just perfect. I haven’t seen this show in years but the soundtrack still manages to find its way into my head pretty often. The Wizard of Oz is a movie my family shares together so it was nice being able to extend this memory into seeing Wicked.

3. 'A Bronx Tale'

My cousins got tickets as a family night out and I figured what the heck why not spend the night with them in the city seeing a broadway show. I knew nothing about the show prior to seeing it and I think that was the best part about my experience. My family is a big Italian family who originated from Bronx, NY. It was so fulfilling to me to be able to see the area my grandparents grew up in and the cast was incredible. Overall this was a show that just hit home for me and I loved how I was able to connect to it so well.

4. 'The Lion King'

Unlike Aladdin, I loved the Lion King movie growing up. I watched it countless times and could recite almost every line. The show was fantastic however I put it it as number 4 because of how much hype it typically receives. Before seeing the show I was extremely excited because everyone said it was going to be the best show I would ever see and it would exceed any expectations I could ever imagine. Yes, it was very good, the costumes were incredible, the cast was insanely talented but it didn’t “wow” me the way I was expecting it to.

5. 'Waitress'

Waitress was another show I knew nothing about before going to see it however I wish I knew the basis beforehand. The storyline was solid and the ending really got to me but the best part about this show was the soundtrack. I wish I would’ve known the songs before seeing the show because I just love them so much. When I’m in the car I find myself singing along to every song in the soundtrack constantly. It’s extremely catchy and overall just great music.

6. 'Once'

Like A Bronx Tale, my cousins took me out and I knew nothing about this show. I ended up loving the music because all the music is played on stage by the cast. I loved the plot of the show and listened to the soundtrack for quite some time after seeing it. The difference between this show and a show like Wicked is that I still find myself singing Wicked songs whereas I never think about the Once anymore. This was a great show however it didn’t make as long of a lasting effect as some others I’ve seen.

If you haven’t seen these please start planning a city trip as soon as you finish this article. Next on my list to see is Kinky Boots so hopefully that will make my top five list next time!
