My Personal Opinion on the Top Five Weirdly Touching Films

Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe in 'Swiss army man'

If you happen to be like myself and have a strange obsession with the weird, quirky and thrown into the mix 'heart - touching', I'm glad to inform you that you've arrived at the right place!

So often I'll find myself watching a film and thinking, "this is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen". And yet, at the same time I find my self very moved by these same things.

Here is my list of the top five weirdly touching films floating around in the cosmos.

Number 5: Hunt For The Wilder People

This is a New Zealand film, directed by the increasingly popular directer and personal favourite of mine Taika Waititi. The film follows the story of a young boy and his foster father who end up at the centre of a manhunt after becoming stranded in the New Zealand wilderness. The film is filled with classic comedy gold and style of Waititi, blending the weird and wonderful seamlessly with a heartwarming story about the bond between a boy and his father.

Number 4: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

The most recent film to come out on this list, but quickly earning some serious acclaim after truly masterful performances from Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell. It is the story of a mother whose daughter is raped, and murdered and the police, after seven months, have made no arrest. Chock-full of perfectly timed lines and chemistry between actors that's as good as it gets, this flick is a must watch.

This following three is really where we delve into full blown weird.

Number 3: The Lobster

Weird. Strange. Bizarre. These words only touch the surface of this, what can kind of be summed up by; romantic comedy. Set in a world where single people must check into a hotel in order to find love, and if not successful in their search shall be turned into an animal. Leading man Colin Farrell let's the freak flag fly in perfectly awkward fashion. One of my personal favourites as well, this film will make you feel all the emotions. It's underlying message of how the world operates and how the single person can feel, pressured to find that special someone.

Number 2: Swiss Army Man

When I first saw this film I was completely blown away. Not only from the farts that fill the sound-scape but also by it's heart warming story of friendship, brotherhood, and simply stating how strange we as people have become. Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano tell the story of a new old life in the form of a dead body being taught about the world. If you are able to accept the fart jokes, and in a sense put them to the side of the movie, the core is definitely a treat and the story will have you fall in love with the characters.

Number 1: Frank

Starring a personal favourite in the acting world, Michael Fassbender. Frank is the story of a quirky band of misfits, in a band! A beautiful story revolving around mental illness and the way in which a touched mind can create some of the most beautiful things, in this case music. By the end of the film you wish for nothing but the best as, through the strange and wonderful you find yourself feeling more and more for the well-being of the character Frank.

I didn't want to go into too much detail with the movies, as I think it's best for me to simply put them out there and once you watch them decide for yourself if you agree that they are both weird and heartwarming.

I hope you enjoy the movies on this list if you haven't seen them already. Perhaps the films I've suggested will have been too mainstream and too well-known.
