'Total Hell!' A Movie About Making Bad Movies

"I KISSED HER! IN THE FACE!" is a fantastic line from Total Hell, a spoof Documentary Movie that hits all the right notes for fans of Horror and Comedy.....

So i first heard about this "mockumentary" back in 2013 in Digital Filmmaker, a magazine aimed at amateur and semi professional filmmakers, i loved the spread and managed to get a hold of the Movie online and laughed my arse off.

So what's the plot you ask?

"Behind the Scenes of TOTAL HELL" is a feature length comedy about a film production, gone wrong. The film follows hapless, egocentric filmmaker Jamie Gunn who believes he is the finest filmmaker since Tarrantino. The journey from script to screen is a tough one as Jamie has no idea what he's doing but somehow pushes past those simple obstacles.Will Jamie and his hapless friends ever finish their movie Total Hell and will it actually deliver the scares.....

As a bit of a film buff and filmmaker myself i was completely floored with this Movie as it spins everything i've dealt with from casting actors, which can be a nightmare of itself, to finding good locations and reliable crew.

Each scene is played to maximum hilarity as the befuddled director Jamie gets his actors doing yet another pointless act like throwing sticks or simply running away from a cardboard monster.

Believe me when they pulled the cereal box werewolf costume out of the car boot i was laughing my head off, damn you Gorilla Dog indeed.....

The mockumentary moves at a great pace with help from Norman Lovett, who provides a voice-over narration to keep viewers on track. The former "Holly" of Red Dwarf fame really sells the film's low expectations and adds realism to the documentary style.

I can honestly say if you caught this on BBC late at night you'd assume it was a fly on the wall production.......well for the most part.

Another moment that made me chuckle was the Bank meeting with Jamie, trying to secure funds for his movie. Having no business plan, no copy of the script and only offering the bank free tickets! Jamie is under the impression he can get around £5 Million pounds right away......

I don't get his problem really as Jamie spent at least a few minutes making a storyboard!....who needs a compelling script with actual characters right?

Plus stick men equals OSCARS in my humble opinion.....

So if you see only one movie this year that deals with a bad director who goes out there and creates a work of.......well something, Let it be this one!
