Trailer For Rob Zombie's '31 Could Pass As R-Rated Cut of Suicide Squad (2016)

Suicide Squad rated PG-13, pros and cons.

2016' is offering the best of both DC' and Marvel this year, and Suicide Squad is the next superhero flick up for release. Well, we can't really say superhero movie when it comes to Suicide Squad, seeing is how the focal point of the movie is on a team of villains. Along with the focal point of the movie being based around a team of supervillains, there was the curious nature of the PG-13 rating attached to Suicide Squad.

Most would expect a movie centered on villainous individuals would showcase some rather explicit content but that it doesn't appear to be the case with Suicide Squad (2016). That's not to say the movie will be any less than what we expect from David Ayer and team behind Suicide Squad. Both the trailers and tv spots released in marketing for the movie have highlighted some spectacular sequences, and the movie appears to deliver a new take on the comic-book movie genre. However, there's still that lack of "raw nature" to go along with the Suicide Squad.

Lack of brutality and explicit content in Suicide Squad.

The raw nature i'm referring to is the violence and brutality capable of villains like the ones on the team of Suicide Squad; in their comic-book iterations. For one, Killer Croc and Katana are massive murderers in DC's Comics.

Along with Floyd Lawton a.k.a. Deadshot basically killing anyone who doesn't share his way of thinking. But even without these characters exhibiting that brutality in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, we would expect the Joker to showcase himself in the most brutal manner. However, that may not be the whole story for the Joker in the movie.

We'll probably witness the Joker becoming his full, evil-incarnate persona in the movie, but the Joker we see won't be loyal to any comic-book iteration of the character which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Especially with Jared Leto in the role of the Joker, and portraying an ever-menacing villain; who we know little about, in regards to his role in the film. There'll definitely be an air of suspense centered around the Joker when Jared Leto makes his first and possibly not last appearance as the iconic DC' Comics villain, the Joker. But digressing back to the raw nature expected of a movie centered on the Suicide Squad.

We'd all like to see a raw cut of Suicide Squad eventually, not depriving us of any of the explicit content we'd all kill to see. However, that hope is sadly lost for the time being. But in the meantime, the trailer for '31 will satiate our needs for a brutal, violently gory spectacle. And not will only will the trailer for the film to give us another great piece of work from director, Rob Zombie, the trailer also provides us with a depiction of what an R-rated cut of Suicide Squad would look like.

Why '31 could convincingly depict the Suicide Squad.

After viewing the trailer, some of the characters played by Sherri Moon Zombie, Richard Brake, and Malcolm McDowell within the trailer could easily pass for interpretations of DC' villains like Harley Quinn and the Joker. And the cuts of Richard Brake's character in '31 gives us a look at what a full-fledged Joker would look like, while possibly providing an opportunity for Brake to be considered in future DC'EU films for the role of the Joker. The Joker of the DC'EU is going to have to age at some point, which would call for another actor to step into the role, and Richard Brake could convincingly portray the Joker, especially after his role in '31.

Brake's appearance in the trailer for '31 definitely rivals that of Jared Leto while making Leto seem a lot less menacing at the same time. The idea of Brake being the Joker on an alternate Earth would be an amazing prospect to consider, but of course, the DC'EU would never cross their properties over with Rob Zombie. That is, since Rob Zombie's films have been geared towards the R-rated and MA-rated demographic, while the DC'EU has kept to their restrictive PG-13 rating.

Potential change in ratings criteria when Suicide Squad 2 rolls around.

Aside from hopes for an R-rated cut of Suicide Squad, we still have hope for Suicide Squad 2 to go along the lines of an R-rated cut. David Ayer spoke on the aspect of Suicide Squad 2 holding an R-rating, but there's no way to guarantee any of that ever coming to be. We can confirm the rating of Suicide Squad (2016) to be PG-13, the information was released earlier this month via EW.

Ratings aside, we'd all like to see something different when Suicide Squad rolls around. It doesn't have to be R-rated to be great (even though it would help), but the film needs to explore ground that hasn't been touched upon yet in a comicbook movie, as well as creating scenes with some insane mayhem to go along with the villains who stand at the focal point of the film in order to distinguish itself from previous DC'EU films. We just have to wait a few more months until the film premieres domestically. Then DC' can attempt to redeem themselves after the failure of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
