When Michael Bay first introduced us to our favorite Robots in Disguise in live action, we were captivated. We were astonished as the gigantic machines fighting on screen came to life from the animated franchises of the past. However, after eight years of sequels, it seems that the famous franchise has run its course, as it's been predicted that this franchise could see an all-time opening low in the box offices with the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight.

It's expected that the smash-hit franchise could actually do quite well in the international box office, while seeing a franchise low for the first five-day domestic debut. This sounds troubling, as the movie could quite easily see the franchise start to wind down. Paramount barely saw Transformers: Age of Extinction bring in $100 million from the box offices, possibly spelling trouble for fans. If the Hollywood Reporter is right, we could begin to see the franchise fade into obscurity unless it is picked up as a television series.

Could this be the beginning of the end for 'Transformers'?

While it's possible Transformers: The Last Knight could very well see itself struggling on opening weekend this Friday, there's no doubt that the series could see modest profits in other box offices. Even if the United States haul proves low, this doesn't necessarily mean the franchise could be coming to in an end. Instead, we could very well begin to see the franchise start spinning up to test itself in other media platforms.

Though it would spell an uncertain future for returning cast members such as Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel and Peter Cullen, we very well could see the series approach streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Video, or Hulu. While these are only minor possibilities, it does seem that Transformers: The Last Night could see the franchise hitting a form of sequel fatigue.

It's not over yet for 'Transformers: The Last Knight' or the franchise.

While this could be seen as doom and gloom, Transformers: The Last Knight will be filling an open slot left over from summer blockbusters such as Wonder Woman as they depart the box offices. While it seems that #Transformers has begun to slow down with earnings, these box office hauls don't quite mount up to what DVD, Blu-Ray, and streaming service purchases could do for the movie once released on home video.

Since the movie debuts in theaters in North America this Friday, we'll have to wait until next week in order to see just how well the movie performs. Let's just hope that the Hollywood Reporter hasn't estimated the box office sales down to a perfect range.
