When Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 ended in 2012, fans caught a brief glimpse of Edward and Bella's daughter, Renesmee, who had been aged to appear appropriately with Jacob, the werewolf who had imprinted on her at the end of Breaking Dawn, Part 1.

Unfortunately, that too-quick glance was all we got, and it left us wanting more, especially since Edward and Bella's love story was told. It seemed unjust that Jacob didn't really get his happily ever after told when he'd spent years pining for Bella. So fans desperately want a sequel to the Twilight franchise that will include the story of the lonely werewolf and the half-human/half-vampire hybrid.

When the story ended, Renesmee was still a child, but she was growing at a rapid rate and would soon become an adult. While she was maturing, Jacob would be her protector, an older brother, but never anything more.

Jacob explained the imprinting process to Bella as a connection that cannot be broken:

"It's not like love at first sight, really. It's more like… gravity moves… suddenly. It's not the earth holding you here anymore, she does… You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that's a protector, or a lover or a friend."

With five years having passed since the end of the saga, that's more than enough time for her to be fully grown and for her real journey with Jacob to begin. Fans could then discover what Renesmee needs Jacob to be for her.

Fans are clamoring so much for a movie based around Jacob and Renesmee that they've been writing their own fan-fiction and creating videos about what could be — splicing together scenes of Taylor Lautner and various actresses such as Nina Dobrev. With millions of views, the videos are proof that the desire for the movie is strong, and Lionsgate wouldn't be short of dollars at the theaters.

There is still much left to learn about Jacob and Renesmee's evolution. And back in 2015, Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight Saga, gave fans the briefest glimmer of hope when she was asked about telling their story in an interview with Hypable.

"And that would be the story, if I went there. If I went on with it. So I’m not going to tell you on the off chance that I do. Oh yeah, there’s an outline. There’s several chapters written. It was something that I was working on before Breaking Dawn came out."

In 2015 Meyer also signed a deal with Hulu to develop a new TV series, but there hasn't been news since then. But with several chapters already written, there is still the possibility of a future story about Jacob and Renesmee. Whether we see it on the big or small screen is another story, but suffice it to say, the fans will be there waiting if it does.
