"Out of everyone that could have walked in, it had to be him."

I want to say it was four years ago in the middle of November. I remember that morning being one of the coldest we had yet. I had to stand on the side of the road for three hours before the sun came up. By the time it actually rose, I couldn’t feel my toes. Half frozen and starving, our shoot day had barely even begun. Great. We were shooting at a restaurant in Stanley Park, Vancouver B.C. I believe it was the scene where Dakota Johnson or Anastasia Steele was having a lovely brunch with her mother, telling her about her new love interest.

I was only a PA at the time, so what we were actually shooting far surpassed my job title. However, all I did know was that I wanted to be inside where it was warm. Luckily, I got just that.

That day, EPK were coming to join us. If you are unfamiliar with the term, they are basically the “behind the scenes” people. All those special features on DVDs are all done by EPK, or BTS, which is the new phrase.

The EPK people were set up in a wine cellar in the basement of the restaurant. I must have done something awesome that day, because my boss had asked me to stay with the EPK. He wanted me to make sure no one took or touched any of the wine bottles. I had planned to do just that. After the mornings bitter cold, this was heaven. Until I had to pee.

I had been with the EPK guys for about four hours by this point. I wasn’t allowed to leave my station without someone covering me, so I couldn’t just get up and leave to the washroom. I tried asking for someone to cover for me, but it being such a big day, there was no one available for a while.

I waited a bit longer. I couldn’t do. I had to go. This wasn’t one of those times where you could tell yourself, “No, I don’t have time, I’ll deal with it later.” It was one of those, “GET OUT OF MY WAY, I HAVE TO GO” times. Desperate, I opened the door from the wine cellar to hallway. The men's washroom was directly across from the wine cellar, however, I couldn’t see the door to the women's washroom.

I went back inside and thought how I was going to execute this. “Perhaps if I were quick, I could use the mens washroom? Yes, I’ll be quick.” I created a plan of attack was. I made up an “Out of Order” sign for the washroom. Hopefully that’ll be enough to deter anyone who may walk in while I was in there. I would do my business and be out within 30 seconds. I had also planned to bring in cleaning spray. That way if anyone did see me in there, I had a legit excuse. My plan was perfect.

I opened the door to the hallway, and see the men's washroom. I walk over and give it a knock. No sounds. I look in, no one. Wait—it’s a stalled bathroom. Shit. Too late, I was already committed. I put the sign on the door and I rushed into one of the stalls. I did my business and precise moment that I am about to walk out of the stall, someone walks in. ABORT! Wait, I can’t go anywhere. I’m stuck in this bathroom stall. I look through the cracks of the stall, and who do I see, but Jamie Dornan himself. WTF. Out of everyone that could have walked in, it had to be him.

I see him walk over to one of the urinals. Holy shit, the moment becomes very real, I’m stuck in the men's washroom, while Jamie Dornan is going piddle. I slowly back up, sit on the toilet and wait. It was so awkward. I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

Finally, as he was done. I was so ready to get out of there. As he was about to make his way out, someone else walks in! OMG, this is not happening. At least it wasn’t our lead actor this time, but I had bigger problems. I’ve been away from the wine cellar for more than 30 seconds. Someone was bound to notice my absence. If my boss ever found out… game over.

I waited for the next guy to finish up. The moment he exited the washroom, I leapt off the toilet, swung the stall door open and rushed out. I slammed into someone else upon my exit, but I didn’t care. I just grabbed the sign and ran into the cellar. Embarrassed, I sat in the position quietly for the rest of the day. No one suspected a thing, and I kept it that way.
