Velvet Comic Book from Team Behind the Winter Soldier Is Becoming a TV Series

There's a lot more to the comic book industry than just Marvel and DC. Cast your eyes to their rival Image Comics, for example, a publishing company where creators retain the rights to everything they make. Of course, the dream for every one of these writers is that their idea will be picked up for adaptation, whether as a TV series or a movie. The most famous of these adaptations is undoubtedly The Walking Dead, a fact that gives you a sense of just how tremendous these creator-owned comics can be.

We've just learned that another top comic book is being adapted for the small screen. Paramount Television is picking up Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's Velvet, a tremendous spy story that stars the heroine Velvet Templeton.

We're introduced to Velvet as a secretary who works in a top-secret British spy agency formed after the Second World War. Once an accomplished field agent, Velvet is tempted back into action when she begins to suspect her agency has been infiltrated. Next thing you know, Velvet herself has been framed for a hit, and her own colleagues are gunning for her.

Brubaker and Epting are a tremendous team, first working together on Marvel's Captain America back in the early 2000s. They're both at their best when they're working on spy books, even transforming Captain America into a dark and moody espionage tale as they launched an arc known as "The Winter Soldier." That proved so influential that it was adapted into what's widely viewed as Marvel Studios' most effective movie to date.

Excitingly, it looks as though Paramount Television is planning for this to be a comic-book-accurate adaptation. Epting himself is signed up as producer for the TV series, working alongside scriptwriter Kyle Killen (Awake, Lone Star). The odds look very good this latest comic book adaptation.
