Wait, What? A 'Cruel Intentions' Sequel Is Coming?

Considering that we are in the era of revivals, it's not so unprecedented to have a 'Cruel Intentions' sequel.

Fifteen or so years ago, pubescent boys around the world were flocking to a certain movie: Cruel Intentions. The movie starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon & Selma Blair. Cruel Intentions revolved around a wager between step-siblings Kathryn (Gellar) and Sebastian (Phillippe). The wager was that Sebastian had until the end of the summer to bed their school's headmaster's daughter, Annette (Witherspoon). If Sebastian managed to sleep with Annette, then he would get to partake in a sexual encounter with the only girl he knew he would never have: Kathryn.

I know, twisted, right? Yet that was the premise of the movie, and it seems like nearly 2 decades later we are set to see a sequel, just not in the way we anticipated. Now, considering that we are in the era where there are suddenly revivals of The X-Files and Full House, as well as movies-turned-tv sequels like Limitless and Training Day - I guess it's not so unprecedented to have another new sequel to hit Network television.

NBC has officially ordered a pilot for the Cruel Intentions sequel series, which will pick up 15 years after the events of the movie. It is set to pit Kathryn against her late step-brother's son, Bash Casey (yes that is what his name is). In the series, Bash, son of Sebastian and Annette, will discover his father's journal and quickly learn about all the scheming, sex and drugs that accompanied his father and Bash starts following in Sebastian's footsteps. It appears that NBC has also wrangled Roger Kumble, writer-director of the original film, to develop the script alongside the pair of Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross.

Really the only question that remains is, is it going to actually hit televisions across the country - or is this going to be another series that doesn't actually ever get past a pilot episode? There is currently no word on whether Sarah Michelle Gellar will return to the role of Kathryn, but I can hope can't I?
