Who can forget Mathew McConaughey's first major on-screen character in Richard Linklater's iconic cult movie Dazed and Confused. A 23 year old outrageously good looking young lad dressed in Ted Nugent inspired t-shirt patterned with pale shades of salmon pants, McConaughey adorned himself with a pipe necklace, inked his forearm with a miniature dragon and used his left sleeve as a disposable cigarette holder and smoked life into the character of David Wooderson. Special mention: That haircut and mustache!

This week the Criterion Collection released the actor's first ever audition video and it's wonderful. Nobody else could deliver David Wooderson as awesome as the man of the hour. More exciting news, this is also the very first time he quotes that classic quip, ‘That’s what I love about high school girls, man. I keep getting older, but they stay the same age.’ Whoever you are behind the camera, thank you for green lighting his performance.

The story as it goes is that McConaughey was damn adamant on becoming an actor. One of his buddies used to bartend at the Hyatt bar and he used to go there for the free beer. And like a perfect kick-ass stoner, he had a chance to meet a casting director and in the process both got drunk and were asked to leave the establishment!

“Top of the Hyatt, Thursday night! I went there because the bartender there gave me free drinks because he was in my film school class [at the University of Texas at Austin]. We got kicked out! We were really drunk. We were talking about a golf hole that we had both played and we were just so loud that management told us to leave.”

The actor appeared in Butch Walker's Synthesizers back in 2012 reprising his role as Wooderson, 19 years after the release of the movie. Watch the video introduce the ageless hunk although it's not hard to miss that somewhat receding hairline & protruding belly tight shirt :p

Btw, this video is nostalgically nostalgic...

And he still can't get enough of David Wooderson and carries that adage with charm wherever he goes...
