Did Spider-Man Hold On To The Top Spot?

War for the Planet of the Apes takes the number one spot at the box office this weekend with a domestic gross of $56 million dollars and a worldwide gross of $102 million dollars, making it the most successful Apes movie overseas. Spider-Man: Homecoming drops down to number two with a weekend gross of $45 million dollars with the movie's daily box office falling since its July 7th release and an overall 61% drop since July 7th. Despicable Me 3 is still holding strong at number three with a weekend gross of $18 million dollars. Baby Driver is still holding its own at the box office at a strong number four with an $8 million dollar weekend gross with only a 32% drop since its June 28 release which is really good for an Edgar Wright film. The Judd Apatow produced comedy, The Big Sick, moves up three spots to number five with a weekend gross of $7 million dollars, becoming the highest grossing Sundance movie this year and the second highest grossing Amazon Studios release so far.

Wonder Woman comes in at number six bringing in another $6 million dollars continuing its dominance as the most successful female superhero movie and it is also the only movie from the past five weeks that is still in the top ten. Wish Upon comes in at number seven with a dismal weekend gross of $5 million dollars which makes it a new release dud. Cars 3 comes in at number eight with a weekend gross of $3 million dollars which makes this the lowest grossing Cars movie but not the lowest dropping animated movie with only a 42% drop. Transformers: The Last Knight comes in at number nine with a weekend gross of $2 million dollars and a 55% drop in the box office making it the lowest grossing live action Transformers movie, and I predict by next weekend this movie will be out of the top 10 due to bad reviews and word of mouth.

Finally rounding out the top 10 is the Will Farrell comedy The House with a weekend gross of $1 million dollars making it one of Will Farrell's lowest grossing comedies, but luckily he has Daddy's Home 2 coming out later this year so he should be able to make a quick comeback. New movies coming out this weekend are the Christopher Nolan-directed World War 2 film Dunkirk. The Luc Besson-directed Sci-Fi action film Valerian, City of a Thousand Planets, and the raunchy chick flick Girls Trip are also coming out this week.

My predictions for next week's box office are that War for the Planet of the Apes and Spider-Man: Homecoming to stay in the same spots. But I predict the rest of the top 10 to change with Dunkirk coming in at number three. Girls Trip will take the number four spot which would be a good place for it to be. Despicable 3 will drop down to number five as most of the kid audience has probably seen this movie. I predict Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will be a bomb as it will come in at number six. I think The Big Sick will still hold strong at number seven due to more word of mouth. Wonder Woman will still be in the top 10 at number eight. Baby Driver will drop down to number nine and rounding out the box office will be Cars 3 at number ten. We will see how right or wrong I am next weekend.
