So the news that Game of Thrones will be ending with Season Eight is hard to take, but we all knew that eventually all good (no great) things would come to an end. While we wait for the delayed Season 7 premiere now set for the summer of 2017; we have to start thinking about the next show to fill the void that should have been Game of Thrones. So the question becomes:

What could be supplanted in our entertainment craving?

Well, I would put money on Westworld being able to fill your craving, check out the trailer below.

We already watch The Walking Dead & Fear the Walking Dead. Luke Cage will be binged on September 30th when it hits Netflix. Then there is the CW lineup of heroes (The Flash, Arrow, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and the recently acquired Supergirl) all start in the first two weeks of October. If we're already watching these, they can't fill the void, but the recent news from #HBO should bring us some hope as to what can fill our Game of Thrones gap.

Westworld Is The Next Game Of Thrones For HBO

Now you may not be completely familiar with the show, or even the concept, but originally Westworld was a film from the early '70s written & Directed by Michael Crichton (author of Jurassic Park, Eaters of the Dead, Congo, Timeline - all of which were adapted from novels to major films).

The original film starred Yul Brynner as an android in a futuristic Western-themed amusement park. While guests attended the park, they could experience all aspects of life in the wild west: everything from a fight to the death, drinks in a saloon or even a sexual encounter with one of the parks androids.

At some point, the androids begin 'failing' and started running amok; choosing to follow their own directives rather than their programming. In 1973, it was an acclaimed success so you can only imagine what a studio like HBO could do with the concept especially with Jonathan Nolan and J.J. Abrams behind the camera.

So Westworld is a place where you can become whoever you want to be, you can experience the thrills and chills of living in the old west - ultimately crafting your own identity and choosing your fate. It's an incredibly unique premise, and up until recently the whole show has been very hush-hush.

What do we know so far?

Over the weekend HBO announced during the Television Critics Association summer tour a ton of information including a premiere date. So needless to say, this is your SPOILER ALERT since there will be a ton of information below about more than just basic character names and show premise.

HBO has declared Westworld "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged." I'd call that a fitting description for what we're about to see in this new epic HBO show.

The Team Behind Westworld

Every theme park needs a competent staff to lead and further innovation, I mean just look at how awesome Jurassic Park was managed (note sarcasm), but in all seriousness there is a talented team behind Westworld in terms of casting.

  • The team is led by Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) as the chief programmer and creative director described as the brilliant, taciturn and complicated director who has an uncompromising vision for the park.
  • His right hand is Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) as the brilliant and quixotic head of the programming division, whose keen observation of human nature provides him with boundless inspiration for creating artificial people.
  • Theresa Cullen (Sidse Babett Knudsen) is the park's Quality Assurance director who is tasked with keeping the park from sliding into unscripted chaos.
  • Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) is the rising star in the Behavior Department who will stop at nothing to diagnose the odd quirks and behavior of the animated creations in the park.
  • Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) is the Head of Security who takes a no-nonsense attitude as he monitors both human and android interactions to ensure general safety for everyone.
  • Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) is the Head of Narrative, whose main goal is to develop storylines that tantalize guests, but he has a tendency to be a thorn in his colleagues sides.

Just looking at these 5 and the roles that they're portraying should already get your heart racing. But that's just the beginning because the cast of characters is filled out by Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler), James Marsden (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Thandie Newton (RocknRolla), Jimmi Simpson (House of Cards), Ben Barnes (Dorian Gray), Rodrigo Santoro (300), Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Hercules), Clifton Collins Jr. (Triple 9) and Ed Harris (Snowpiercer).

With such incredible talent filling the screen, it's hard to not be excited for what HBO has in store for us in Westworld.
