What A (Fish)Burn: Laurence Fishburne Slams DC And Won't Appear In 'Justice League'

"Extra, extra, read all about it, Daily Planet editor slams DC." Stop the presses, because it looks like The Matrix actor Laurence Fishburne is throwing some serious shade in #WarnerBros.'s direction, and in particular, at Geoff Johns.

While promoting his part in John Wick: Chapter 2, Fishburne confirmed what most people are thinking, that #Marvel is kicking #DC's ass when it comes to live-action films. Speaking to the LA Times, Fishburne questioned why it had taken DC so long to get their ducks in a row:

“We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever."

Not 'Perry' likely!

Fishburne first took on the role of Perry White in 2013's Man of Steel, before reprising his role in a smaller capacity for last year's #BatmanvSuperman. Originally denying that he would have a role in the upcoming #JusticeLeague film due to scheduling conflicts, Fishburne also confirmed that he was definitely not part of the superhero team-up — well, if he wasn't before, he sure ain't gonna be now!

A role that has been played by a number of people over the years (my personal favorite was Lane Smith in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), Perry White is DC's very own J. Jonah Jameson and a big part of Superman's history. I am a huge Fishburne fan, but perhaps he should think himself lucky that he has a role in the #DCEU at all. With Justice League already full to the rafters with the likes of Ben Affleck, Gal Gdot, and Jason Momoa, not to mention new additions like J.K. Simmons and Willem Dafoe, perhaps there just isn't room for the disgruntled newspaper editor. Fishburne went on to praise Zack Snyder's work in Man of Steel, but also seems OK with his exclusion from JL:

"And really, what do you need the newspaperman in 'Justice League' for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern."

With the action most likely taking place in Gotham, it would seem out of place for the Daily Planet editor to make the trip, unless he happened to bump into Bruce Wayne while vacationing.

What (MC)U lookin' at?

While Justice League will be the first big DC outing for our lycra-clad heroes, Marvel kickstarted their cinematic universe way back in 2008 with Iron Man. Since then, we have had superhero team-ups with the two Avengers movies, as well as Captain America: Civil War, and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok and Infinity War saga. DC has struggled to wrangle their various different heroes together, given Superman's slump with Superman Returns, Batman's Joel Schumacher phase, and George Miller's cancelled Justice League: Mortal film. With lackluster reviews for BvS and Suicide Squad, as well as problems behind the scenes of the #Batman solo film, the likes of Wonder Woman and Aquaman are hugely important for the #comicbook powerhouse. With Kevin Feige's MCU acting like Bane in this situation, ultimately it will be Justice League that makes or breaks the back of the DCEU.
