What A Load Of Bullocks: James Corden Joins All-Female 'Ocean's Eight'

While it may be well over a year away, the hype surrounding the Sandra Bullock-centric #OceansEight continues, while its ever-growing cast list just added bubbly Brit #JamesCorden to its ranks. After establishing humble roots on the BBC's rom-com Gavin and Stacey, Corden headed stateside to monopolize The Late Late Show, and his now infamous Carpool Karaoke, before branching out into Hollywood.

With a script co-written by director Gary Ross, Olivia Milch takes up the rest of the writing duties for Ocean's Eight, which is scheduled for a June 8, 2018 release. George Clooney will move from his role as group leader Danny Ocean in the original trilogy to behind the camera as an executive producer for the female-first film. The spin-off stars Bullock as Clooney's estranged sister as she teams up with stars like Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter for another heist film.

Can Eight Be Great?

The original Ocean films ran from 2001 to 2007, with Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon leading the franchise. We assumed that the series had all but ended after Ocean's Thirteen, but rumors of a girl's get-together began circling after Bernie Mac's death in 2008. News of the next Ocean's film came just a month after Paul Feig announced his all-female Ghostbusters, and we all know how that turned out. Other films that focus on the fairer sex are the rumored ladies-only version of The Expendables (dubbed the Expendabelles), however, that seems to have stalled on the starting blocks. After a rocky ride with their second entry, the Ocean's film returned to some sort of glory in 2007 with Thirteen. Despite only having three films under its belt, Ocean's has netted a cool $1 billion for #WarnerBros, so can the girls follow in its footsteps?

Clearly the focus isn't just on the women, with Corden joining several other prominent male actors. His role is reportedly as an insurance investigator, which presumably will have something to do with the girls' big con. The 38-year-old will be joined by Damian Lewis, who plays Bullock's ex-lover and target of the lovely ladies. Meanwhile, Damon is set to reprise his role as Linus Caldwell from the original trilogy — so far being the only cast member to return.

Cor' Blimey

A busy schedule means that Corden will have to fit Ocean's in around hosting the Grammy Awards in February and voicing Peter Rabbit in Will Gluck's big screen adaptation of the garden rabbit. Thanks to Carpool Karaoke, Corden's address book is filled with the who's who of Hollywood if Ocean's needs anymore famous faces to add to its already impressive roster.

As a bit of a marmite actor, I am not sure how Corden's casting will go down, especially when given the A-list credentials of the rest of the cast. We just have to hope he won't be shoehorned in as a Ricky Gervais-esque novelty Brit for comic relief. Now all we need Corden to do is hand over that book to get his mate Adele on board, and we are all set!
