What Actually Happened to Jacob at the End of 'Fantastic Beasts'?
Plot Hole, or an Open-Ended Story by J.K. Rowling?

Plot hole? Or an open ended story by J.K. Rowling? There is one thing that has left fans pondering over once they've finished watching #FantasticBeasts, and it's nothing to do with the protagonist, Newt Scamander, or even any of his beasts. It's about the "No-Maj" who accidentally stumbles into the magical world. That's right — Jacob Kowalski, the baker.
Following his once in a lifetime adventure with Newt, it became clear that Jacob had actually seen too much for a wizard's liking. This tragically meant Jacob was forced to be obliviated — or was he? Fans have been questioning whether Jacob was actually protected from the Obliviate spell due to some suspicious activity seen at the end of the film. The final scene shows Queenie walk into his bakery shop, and we see Jacob vaguely appearing to recognize her. Not only that, paying close attention, Jacob also replicated the magical beasts he encountered on his journey with Newt and Queenie out of pastry to sell in his shop.
Was Jacob Actually Obliviated?
The actor who plays Jacob in Fantastic Beasts has shared his thoughts on this theory and has explained he isn't actually sure. In a statement, Dan Fogler said:
"That's interesting, isn't it? It's kind of like what happens in a dream or something... Whatever's buried in the id seeps out and gets buried in his pastries."
Further on in his interview, Fogler confirmed that he doesn't necessarily think that Jacob wasn't fully Obliviated, and was actually protected under her magical umbrella as Queenie kissed Jacob. Was this done on purpose so Queenie could save all of Jacob's magical memories?
On the other hand, Fogler has clarified that he thinks it is possible that his memories were protected when he kissed Queenie at the end while getting soaked in the rain. Continuing with his statement, Fogler said:
"This is what I think happens, this is what I kind of made up for myself. Between the bite and eating the magical strudel and the medicine he puts on and hanging out with all the creatures and everything, and the kiss — I think that maybe he gives him some kind of protection against the Obliviation spell."
All we can do here is hope that Jacob was protected from being Obliviated and still secretly remembers everything that he witnessed. Of course, it would be a shame if he didn't actually remember anything. Will this "plot hole" be closed off in #FantasticBeasts2 if Jacob makes an appearance?
