What Alexander Skarsgård Did After 'The Legend of Tarzan' Is What All of Us Would Do

Before Alexander Skarsgård was cast as the king of the jungle, his body was ripped already — but much leaner than his insanely ripped physique now. On July 1st, his new movie, The Legend of Tarzan will hit the theaters.

Skarsgård will portray John Clayton III, the Lord Greystoke. Even though this version of Tarzan is years removed from his beloved home in the Congo jungle, he has still maintained his formidable physique after years as a British gentleman. His wife, Jane, must have been one happy lady. He's been invited back to Congo to serve as trade emissary — cue the shirtless scenes:

From Viking Vampire to King of The Jungle

His insanely ripped Tarzan bod shows how much work and discipline he put into it. Months before principal photography even began, Alex began to hit the gym to build up lean muscle, and even trained with choreographer Wayne McGregor to really nail the transition from being a gentleman of London to being the king of the jungle.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly (on June 17th), ASkars said:

“The key for me was I didn’t want to look like a broiler, I didn’t want to look like someone from Venice Beach, that sort of Golds Gym look.”

Rigorous workouts weren't enough; ASkars also had to meticulously watch what went into his stomach! He had to eat portions of protein every few hours.

In the same interview, Margot Robbie recalls that when they showed up at work on Monday morning, ASkars would ask her to describe, in detail, what she ate over the weekend.

“I remember the day that he was allowed an apple, and he kissed the apple. ”
“It hit me how deprived you are if you’re that excited to see a piece of fruit.”

And so, when production for The Legend of Tarzan wrapped up, he visited his father Stellan Skarsgård in London for a massive binge of delicious pastas.

“I spent four days just in bed, being fed by Dad. He cooked these pastas with rich sauces and bone marrow and fried mozzarella and tons of beer and wine. It was the most incredible weekend of my life.”

After months of grueling and beastly routine of exercising and dieting, I think all of us would binge on carbs as though they were ambrosia and nectar, just like ASkars.

In less than a month, we will see Alexander Skarsgård swing in the jungle in all his glory. Will there be loincloths involved or just plain khaki? Will we hear Tarzan's iconic yell? We'll discover the answers to these questions soon enough. ASkars will be joined by other acting greats Margot Robbie, Samuel Jackson, John Hurt, Christoph Waltz, Jim Broadbent and Djimon Hounsou on July 1st.

Meanwhile, watch him swing with vines, jump off cliffs, and keep up with the apes in the movie's trailer below:
