While Transformers: The Last Knight isn't the best installment in this series of Transformers films, it definitely left a lasting impression on the audience. Mainly because some major teases for the upcoming spinoffs were subtly dropped throughout the movie. The biggest and most obvious played out during the post-credits scene.

In the post-credits scene, Unicron's horns are once again being examined and studied by a group of human scientists. While they're exploring, the scene then cuts to a mysterious woman walking towards them, who then goes on to warn them of disturbing the land they're standing on. We don't know exactly who this woman is, but there was a fair indication of the woman being Quintessa in disguise, despite her apparent death earlier in the film.

What Could Quintessa Have Planned For Unicron?

What's interesting about this post-credits scene is that Quintessa purposely let Optimus and the Autobots believe she'd been defeated, since her first attempt to use Earth / Unicron to revive Cybertron didn't go as planned. Her presence at the sight of Unicron's horns in the post-credits scene merely proves that Quintessa isn't done with her conniving schemes of resurrecting a planet. Only, she's not trying to resurrect Cybertron anymore. It appears as if Quintessa's true motivations lie in awakening Unicron from his slumber. After seeing Cybertron's remains crashing down on the surface of Earth, there's nothing to go back to. And without a home to revive, Quintessa likely has her sights set on the only other Cybertronian planet left for her to become queen of: Earth / Unicron.

If Unicron's origins in the Transformers Cinematic Universe weren't made clear, Earth and Unicron are one and the same. Unlike the canonical version from the cartoons, Unicron isn't a planet devouring force, intent on consuming Earth. It's Earth itself. With that known, Quintessa will probably attempt to resurrect Unicron in the next Transformers movie. If that claim holds true, what does that mean for Earth?

It's not like Earth can continue to exist while Unicron at its core, continually consumes other planets. So, there's a good chance that Quintessa's revival of Unicron will be accompanied by the Earth we've become familiar with being destroyed. Since it's fair to assume Unicron will terraform the planet, Earth's inhabitants would likely be exterminated in an extinction level event. While at the same time, forcing the Transformers to leave the planet. In which case, a space based adventure could be in the cards.

Will Earth Crumble In Lieu Of Unicron's Revival?

Now, the Transformers may not be able to return to the broken remains of Cybertron, but they could find a similarly habitable planet to take refuge on. Plus, the aspect of the Transformers choosing Earth for their battleground came up several times during #TheLastKnight, so the emphasis placed on the Transformers' decision to come to Earth will likely be a topic of interest once again. Only this time, the Transformers will be tasked with finding a similarly habitable planet to seek refuge on, with Earth no longer being a viable candidate.

Of course, there's a possibility that Quintessa's continued mission to resurrect Unicron will be the central focus of another film. But, that premise would berehashing what was done in #TransformersTheLastKnight, meaning there's a better chance for any followups to The Last Knight to depict Earth being destroyed, in preparation for the Transformers to take on a space-faring adventure where they battle Unicron.

Could A Spinoff Set During WWII Be The Next Transformers Movie To Follow Bumblebee?

Apart from the spinoff teased by Quintessa, Transformers: The Last Knight also hinted at Bumblebee's story during WWII, which means there could be some development on that plot thread as well. Some fans can argue that any further development of Bumblebee's past will take place in the upcoming spinoff. But with that movie being a prequel taking place in 1985, it wouldn't correspond to Bee's involvement in WWII. And, Sir Edmond (Anthony Hopkins) hinted at Bumblebee's integral role in WWII, so more than a fair share of nods to Bumblebee's past in the 1940's. That said, the teases of Bumblebee and other Transformers in that era could be the focus of an entirely different spinoff.

The Bumblebee spinoff is set for a release date of June 8, 2018.
