Grammy Awards Are Given For Excellence in Music.

There are so many different award shows on television that it is hard keeping up with all of them. Some people don't know who the award show honors until it is aired.

Celebrities are honored several times during the year for their contributions in entertainment whether it is making music or acting in films, theater, or television.

Grammy Award for Music

The Grammy Award was originally called the Gramophone Award or just Grammy. It is sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to honor those with outstanding achievements in classical music, jazz, country and other categories.

The categories include the following:

  • Album of the Year
  • Record of the Year
  • Song of the Year
  • Best New Artist

The only two artists to win all four of the above awards are Christopher Cross and Adele. Cross won all four in 1980. Adele won hers in separate years. She won the Best New Artist award in 2009, and the other three in 2012 and 2017.

The person with the most gold-plated gilded gramophones is Sir Georg Solti, a Hungarian-British conductor with 31. Quincy Jones has 27, and Stevie Wonder has 25. Beyonce has 22, Kanye West has 21, and Michael Jackson earned 20 before his death.

Emmy Award For Excellence in Television

An Emmy Award is given to those who have excelled in the television industry. Actress Susan Lucci knows the number 19 is a charm. That's because she was nominated 18 times every year since 1978 before the streak was over in 1999, and she won an Emmy for her portrayal of Erica Kane on the soap opera "All My Children."

The statuette plated in 24-karat gold costs $800 is given to actors, directors and film professionals. Veteran actress Meryl Streep has won the most Golden Globes, with eight wins. She has had 28 nominations, which has also been the most.

Tony Award For Theater

The Tony Award is named after Mary Antoinette "Tony" Perry for Excellence in Theater. The actress and director was the founder of American Theatre Wing. The Tony is given to those who have achieved excellence in live Broadway theater.

Academy Awards for Motion Pictures

The Academy Award ceremony is also called the Oscars. Those who have achievements in the film industry receive the Academy Award of Merit referred by the nickname Oscar. The Oscars is the oldest of all the entertainment awards that began in 1929 even though it was not televised until 1953.

People's Choice Award

People's Choice Award for Popular Culture

The People's Choice Award recognizes people for their outstanding work in popular culture. The winners are voted on by the general public. Ellen DeGeneres is the most awarded person with a total of 20 People's Choice Awards. The trophy's new design has been compared to the female anatomy.
