If you've been keeping up with the latest episodes of Fox's The Gifted, then you know that quite a few important developments have taken place over the last two episodes. In the most recent episode "eXit strategy", Polaris and Reed Strucker were successfully broken out of Sentinel Services's custody after a long-fought battle with Jace Turner's seemingly endless legion of soldiers. This jailbreak led the somewhat redeemable Agent Turner to call for a "shoot-on-sight" order. As a result of this decision, it would seem likely that Turner would venture down a war-path for mutants. However, his actions in Episode 2 proved otherwise, which lead us to question what Turner's next moves might be.

Episode 2, titled "eXposed" saw Turner get a very intriguing call from Dr. Roderick Campbell, a.k.a. Ahab. The call consists of a request for Turner to give permission to experiment on any of the mutants Turner captured. Campbell attempts to persuade him into sending off the captured mutants to his lab for experimentation, but Turner refuses. He doesn't say much in response, but his refusal to turn over prisoners for illegal experimentation shows that there are some lines even Turner won't cross. If he does hold some compassion for mutants, this could lead to a Turner character evolution before the season draws to a close. Then again, Turner did have Pulse working for him as a mind-controlled puppet, so perhaps his hands aren't so clean after all.

Assuming Turner and Campbell did have a prior agreement with one another, there's a good chance Campbell gave Sentinel Services the controlled mutant under Turner's watch. This also presents the possibility of more mutant captives being being brainwashed and used against the Mutant Underground. What's to say Pulse isn't the only mutant who Turner has working for him?

Does Turner Have More Mutant Agents Working For Him?

The brainwashed Pulse opens the door for mind control to be applied to the X-Men, and it wouldn't be the first time this tactic was used on mutants.

X2: X-Men United and X-Men Origins: Wolverine also featured mutants who became slaves to the control of evil characters like William Stryker. That aspect was only briefed touched upon in the X-Men movies, but if the same ploy is being utilized in a series, perhaps a bigger emphasis on brainwashed mutants will be present on The Gifted. Who knows, maybe the brainwashing will grant us an opportunity to see a twisted version of the #XMen. In movies, they've mostly been portrayed as heroic counterparts, so maybe it's about time the Professor X's team of mutants become twisted in the dystopian world that is #TheGifted universe.

All things considered, Jace Turner is probably going to be involved with Campbell's operations in one way or another. He has a brain-washed Pulse working for him, and Turner just lost a major lead in his pursuit of the Mutant Underground, so he's likely going to agree to any deal that leads to the capture of said fugitives—including a potential partnership with Robert Campbell. The question is, will Turner smarten up before it's too late, or will he join Campbell's sector of twisted mutant experimentation?

The Gifted airs Mondays on Fox.
