With recent news that Supergirl will be moving to the CW, It has gotten fans excited to see her fly around and associate herself with the Flarrowverse more often. For me it also raised another question: who will play Superman if he ever appears on Supergirl?

Up to this point we have only seen shadows and blurry visions of the Man of Steel or a younger version of him, but that could change in the future. While DC and Warner Bros. seem stubbornly content with not allowing Superman to appear on the small screen with Henry Cavill's version still in the DCEU, It seems hypocritical when you consider the fact we have two Barry Allen's on film and TV.

Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller

So while it is unlikely, it is not impossible that we will at least get a cameo from Superman on his cousin's show. Why shouldn't we have some fun and speculate who could end up playing Superman? With the show moving to the CW it actually makes guessing who could be casted as Superman a lot easier. CW has a habit of recycling actors and using actors from past shows in their new ones, even in their superhero shows.

Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, and Willa Holland all were alumni of CW when they were cast in Arrow and The Flash, appearing in either multiple CW shows or being a long standing member of one.

While it is not a forgone conclusion that if Superman is featured in Supergirl he will be played by a former CW actor, it is a plausible assumption to make, and it is just pure fun to speculate. At the end of the article there will be a poll where you can vote for which alum you would like to see as Superman. Not every former actor from a CW show will be featured, only ones that I felt have what it takes to portray Superman.

I wanted to try and focus on actors who have a long-standing history with the CW whether it be from one show or many and while there are some favorites for the role, like Joe Manganiello who appeared on One Tree Hill for 13 episodes, he will be left out despite him being a great fit, because he was not on the CW long enough to really be considered a "recycled actor."

Sorry Joe!

If I leave anyone else out from the CW that you would like to see as Superman or if you just have any ideas for who could play the character feel free to leave your opinion in the comments. With all that being said, here we go:

Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles

He has been playing Dean Winchester on Supernatural for 11 seasons now and also played Jason Teague in Smallville season 4. Ackles has a large fan base and already has worked with DC in the Batman animated feature Under the Red Hood. Ackles has the chiseled jaw and the screen presence that can carry Superman.

Jared Padalecki

Jared Padalecki

The other brother from Supernatural, Padalecki would also be a good fit for the role with the same good looks as his on screen brother, but with a better ability to portray the kinder side of his emotions. He is tall and well built to fill out the suit.

Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder has been the fan favorite on the hit show The Vampire Diaries for 7 seasons now. While he is best known for being an anti-hero, he has been able to show lighter sides to his character.

Steven R. McQueen

Steven R. McQueen

Another Vampire Diaries star, he was rumored to be up for the role of Nightwing in the now canceled Teen Titans show on TNT, but he is not the worst fit for Superman either. He has the chiseled jaw and muscular physique to pass as the Man of Steel.

Thomas McDonell

Thomas McDonell

He played Finn on The 100 and while his character was far off from what Superman is, he is a solid actor and could surprise people. Not my first choice, but I would be willing to give him a shot.

Torrance Coombs

Torrance Coombs

He plays Sebastian on Reign, and is good at playing a comforting and loving character much like Superman. If he trims up a bit I think he could have a good look for it as well.

Giacomo Gianniotti

Giacomo Gianniotti

He has been on many shows for the CW including Beauty and the Beast, Reign, and Backpackers. He has a great look for the role, can play a caring individual and I think he has what it takes to play Superman.

Chris Woods

Chris Woods

He has had roles in both The Carrie Diaries and The Vampire Diaries. He is good at playing a sociopath, which is far from Superman's character, but he has had other roles that show off he has solid range to be able to play kinder characters.

Penn Badgley

Penn Badgley

Known for his role as Dan on Gossip Girl, he has the look for Superman and has the right kind of charisma for the job. Needs to bulk up though to pull off being the most powerful being on Earth.

Chase Crawford

Chase Crawford

Another Gossip Girl star who may not be the first actor you'd expect for Superman, but he has the physical features and acting range to pull it off. He is charming and good looking, what more does Supes need? Needs to bulk up a little, but that shouldn't be hard for him.

Michael Rady

Michael Rady

Having appeared in Emily Owens M.D. and Jane the Virgin, Rady has the ability to play the dorky Clark Kent, and the more charming and somewhat intimidating Superman. Like a lot of men on this list, he would need to bulk up.

Rafi Gavron

Rafi Gavron

This guy appeared on a lesser known show called Life Unexpected that lasted only two seasons. You might recognize him from 24 though. He is a typical bad boy actor that is the least likely out of most of these gentleman to be picked, but he has the muscular look and ability to play the more intimidating Superman.
