Who's Going to Die in 'Avengers: Infinity War?'

Because hurting is a fun thing to do, right? Right?

So, as many know, since the release of the trailer, Avengers: Infinity War—Part One has been the talk of Marvel fans worldwide. Speculation about what happens has been on everyone's lips, and with the threat of Thanos looming over our favorite heroes' heads, we all know that there's a chance that one, if not several, of our beloved Avengers may not make it through the battle and into the rest of the movies yet to come.

But how can we know before the movie who's going to die? Is there some way to prepare? Ultimately no, but there is a way to eliminate some possible characters from the chopping block. The answer is to simply look at the movie lineup yet to come.

For example, we all know that King T'Challe (Black Panther), who made his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, after his father, former King T'Chaka, was killed in the bombing of the Vienna International Center. King T'Challa and many of his Wakandan companions are present for the stand against Thanos. What else would any of us expect? It's shown in Civil War that, while at times as emotional as the rest of us, T'Challa's code is marked by a stand for justice. Who else to stand with a team defined by their commitment to justice against the harbinger of chaos, himself?

We can easily assume that T'Challa will survive to see the second part of Avengers: Infinity War at the very least, with part one breaking into box offices in May, and Black Panther following in July. It would make no sense to kill off a character with an upcoming movie, so logically speaking, we know T'Challa will not die.

In the same vein of elimination, we can predict that Carol Danvers, ex-agent of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) and rather forced love interest of Steve Rogers (Captain America) is also safe, with Captain Marvel's release currently pending for 2019. So, too, can we predict a couple more surviving characters, should we take a look at the IMDB casting page.

After a quick peruse of the Captain Marvel cast list, we can see that Nick Fury will be featured. Good reason to predict that he won't be killed? Probably. Now, let's take a look at a couple more films set to come out after Avengers: Infinity War. For example: Ant Man.

'Ant Man and The Wasp'

Hm, interesting. We know Scott Lang is in Infinity War, and he's featured in Ant Man and The Wasp. Given that we've yet to see much of Hope Van Dyne, it's safe to assume that Marvel will be relying on keeping Ant-Man in the picture at least long enough to give Hope her due with a proper debut of Wasp, the suit she inherited from her mother. This trend can be seen too with Spider-Man: Homecoming's untitled sequel and, given the fact that Infinity War will be only Holland's second motion picture piece in the series, we can easily predict that he will be safe from the chopping block, though that's all we can tell. As of yet, there are only three confirmed cast members for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel at this time. Now, let's look deeper, take a look at some of the people who might NOT return. For this, we have to look into the actors and their contracts with Marvel, as well as who is confirmed for upcoming movies such as the untitled Avengers four.

Untitled 'Avengers 4'

Picture from: IMDB

After a quick peruse of the cast list for Avengers 4, we can see that all our favorite characters are safe. Clint Barton...good...Tony Stark...excellent....Wanda Maximoff....wait! What?! Neither Wanda Maximoff nor Sam Wilson are confirmed for Avengers 4?! Marvel! No! Don't you dare! Stop! Bad Marvel!

Now, given that Sam has been present in quite a few movies already, and given his arc in Civil War, and the definite guilt over the damage incurred by James Rhodes when Falcon dodged a shot meant for him, which then struck Iron Patriot from the sky, it's easy to see that Sam could be killed off in a strong redemption arc. It's very possible that Marvel would go this route to strike a potentially devastating blow, not just into the hearts of fans, but into the hearts of Avengers, too. It's no secret that Sam is a dear friend of Steve Rogers.

Wanda Maximoff, however, is a bit of a different story. It's likely that she has simply not been confirmed for Avengers 4 as of yet to incur speculation and buzz around the movie as a whole. Given that Wanda has only been in two Marvel movies thus far. It's unlikely that they'll kill this fan favorite off, especially with the death of Pietro Maximoff already striking a low blow to fans everywhere. Still, is is possible that Wanda could die? Possibly, but lets look deeper.

If we look back to the cast list, we find that there's one other fan favorite not confirmed for the fourth edition to the Avengers series. A tricky villain with a long mean streak that so many fans adore. That's right. Loki. I looked this entire list up and down and couldn't find any trace of Tom Hiddleston on the list. That doesn't bode well for the popular villain-turned-not-so-villain.

When you look deeper and think of all the movies he's already been in, it's not hard to find evidence to back this theory up. Loki has had a long run with Marvel, debuting in the first movie and appearing in a whopping FIVE MOVIES, including Infinity War! Woah! That's a good run! Especially when you consider the redemption arc he received in Thor: Ragnarok.

There's an astronomically large chance that Avengers: Infinity War could be the end for this favorite of the Avengers fandom, one that this author considers well-suited to such a carefully constructed and dynamic character. My only hope is that, should this be the case, Loki is given the ending he deserves, rather than the false one in Thor: The Dark World.

That's all this author's got for you guys today, but what do you think? Am I right? Completely off the mark? That's up to you to decide.
