Will 'Dragon Ball Super' Retcon The Events Of 'GT' Or Will The Stories Intersect At Some Point?

Considering how the latest episodes of 'Dragon Ball Super' teased GT-related characters, there may be some crossover between the separate Dragon Ball series.

The latest story arc to take center stage on Dragon Ball Super is the Universal Survival Saga, with Goku and the Z-Fighters fighting for the survival of their universe. They're not just trying to save the world (like they usually do), they're fighting to save themselves from being completely erased.

While this chapter in the #DragonBall saga is going to be a discussion topic for some time, there's an even more interesting story arc waiting in the wings after the Universal Survival Arc concludes. We don't know exactly where #DragonBallSuper will go after this, but considering how the latest episodes of Super have been teasing GT-related characters, it's safe to say there'll be some intersection between the separate Dragon Ball series.

Pan is the first GT-related character on Dragon Ball Super.

The first clues towards Dragon Ball GT having some influence on Dragon Ball Super came when Pan was introduced. Videl gave birth to Pan during Super, when Pan was originally introduced at the age of 4 during Dragon Ball Z. Pan didn't get much screen time in #DBZ, with the series closing out soon after she was introduced. It was actually on Dragon Ball GT that Pan became a spotlighted character at the age of 9.

After examining how the timelines of GT and Super are beginning to intersect to a small degree, there's still a bit of time before baby Pan will become like her GT counterpart. Then again, considering how quickly her Saiyan abilities are manifesting themselves, it's quite plausible for Pan to become a featured character on Super much earlier on than she did in GT. She may even be part of the next story arc on Super if there's a time jump coming in the near future.

One of the more recent episodes of Dragon Ball Super, namedrops the character Uub. Dende, the guardian of Earth, informed Goku that Uub, an extremely young fighter, was making waves in a nearby town. Goku doesn't know exactly who the young fighter is until Dende explains that Uub is the reincarnation of Kid Buu, who Goku hoped would be reborn as someone good.

After learning of Uub's birth, Goku decided not to meet with the young fighter. We can safely assume there will be some development of Uub's story in the near future, having been mentioned much earlier on than his initial introduction to the #DragonBall anime.

How will Uub fit into Super when he's been featured as a GT centric character?

Uub is an important character to acknowledge here because he didn't come into prominence until Dragon Ball GT began. Uub was briefly introduced during the last martial arts tournament of Dragon Ball Z but it was his story arc in Dragon Ball GT that really put the spotlight on him. That said, Uub probably has a role to play on Dragon Ball Super if he's being introduced earlier than his GT counterpart. Giving us reason to believe more GT's story-line will intersect with that of Super in the near future. Keep in mind that even if a crossover between the separate Dragon Ball series takes place, there will be a substantial difference between the events of GT and Super.

After Goku and Vegeta surpassed the Super Saiyan levels they attained in GT by taking on the form of Gods in Super, their stories will turn out completely different in the scenario of GT plots being explored during Super. Their increased abilities would allow them to dismantle any of the threats they faced during GT without much difficulty. Then again, villains like the Shenron dragons and Baby could still pose a substantial threat to them even with their God level power. Some fans could argue that the Shenron dragons might not even show up—which is true, but there's one GT villain who's almost guaranteed a place on Super: Baby.

Will Baby show up in light of more aliens making their way to Earth?

Baby was originally a Dragon Ball GT specific character. He was introduced as the first alien antagonist on GT and became quite a formidable adversary for Goku, Pan, and Trunks. He even took control of Trunks and several of the Z-fighters during his time on GT. Baby's abilities allow it to attach itself to anyone like a parasite, controlling them from the inside.

At the moment, there's no indication of Baby being introduced on Super but, with the latest trend of aliens making their way to Earth, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise for Baby to make his debut on Super as well.

Baby's origins dictate his birth taking place on the planet M-2, which to most would seem like proof of Baby being too far away from Earth to start a conflict there. But when we consider what Baby's motivations are (eliminating the Saiyan race), he may find his way to Earth just like the alien poachers who invaded Android 17's island did on the latest episodes of Super. To be clear, the two alien races are completely different from one another but when we look at the number of aliens who've landed on Earth during Super, it's plausible for Baby to be the next alien to arrive.

Aside from the alien poachers who invaded 17's island, we can also look at Jaco and the alien parasite known as Watagash being introduced on Super as evidence towards more aliens showing up. Now we can't say with a certainty that Baby will be one of those aliens, but after examining the hints of GT's story intersecting with that of Super, it makes sense for Baby to show up—eventually. If that is the case, then Baby's introduction would most likely lead into other GT centric characters like Super 17 joining Dragon Ball Super.

Does the evidence prove Dragon Ball Super will use elements of DB'GT in their next story arc?

With all these clues being accounted for, it seems like Super will eventually cover the plot-threads explored during Dragon Ball GT. There may not be a full crossover between GT and Super but that doesn't mean elements of GT won't be integrated into the current series.

Reasonably speaking, Super will probably retcon the events of GT to retell the story in a different manner. Since we know Goku and Vegeta's character arcs have taken a completely different turn than their stories in GT, there'll probably be some deviation between what happened in GT and what's currently taking place on Super. Being the titular characters of Dragon Ball, the difference in story-lines taken with Goku and Vegeta is a clear sign that GT will be retconned in light of Super. That said, a retcon of the GT story line would allow the Dragon Ball anime to utilize the best elements of GT without having to cover the GT story arcs in exactly the same manner. With that in mind, the next saga on Super could very well involve Baby, the Black Star Dragons, or possibly Super 17.
