A few days ago, the head of Sony Pictures, Amy Pascal was interviewed for the premiere of Spider-Man: Homecoming. During the interview, she spoke mostly on Spider-Man's adventures in the upcoming standalone, but Pascal also had some interesting comments to make in regards to Venom and how that film will fit into the Spider-Man: Homecoming universe.

Contrary to what Kevin Feige has said about Venom existing outside the MCU, Pascal revealed that Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man will exist in both the MCU and Sony's movie universe, being created for Venom and Silver and Black.

"Well those movies will all take place in the world that we are now creating for Peter Parker. They’ll be adjuncts to it, it may be different locations but it will still all be in the same world, and they will be connected to each other as well.”

While the two studio heads seem to have conflicting opinions on where Venom stands in the MCU, it appears as though Spider-Man will have a dual status within both movie universes. Does this mean the MCU and Sony's movie universe are going to intersect on a deeper level? More importantly, what will Spider-Man's role be, now that we know he has a potential spot in both universes?

How Will Spider-Man Interact Between the Two Movie Universes?

Aside from what Spidey will do in Avengers: Infinity War, his actions in that film will likely lead into the main plot of Venom. With the Venom standalone expected to debut the same year as Infinity War, a potential connection between the two may be established. If so, Avengers: Infinity War could be where Venom's origins begin. Unless Venom's origins are completely rewritten for the movie, some type of alien craft or contact with alien life will need to be established for the Black Symbiote to make its way to Earth.

Most fans assume a meteor will bring the parasitic life-form to Earth, or a scientist will wind up creating it. But, what if, it's Spider-Man who brings the symbiote back with him after his adventures in space during the Infinity Wars? We know that the Avengers, along with Spider-Man, will take the fight to Thanos somewhere out in space. So, it's not too difficult to see an alien parasite like the Black Symbiote hitching a ride with the Avengers back on Earth. That also opens up the potential for Spider-Man to don the symbiote suit before Eddie Brock gets his hands on it. And it just so happens, that Amy Pascal also teased a potential appearance for Peter Parker in Venom, during her interview with FilmStarts:

"There’s a chance [that Peter Parker will appear]. There’s always a chance. I think one of the things that Kevin has done with Marvel that was so brilliant is by bringing the fans along and making each movie seem like a chapter in a book, that you have to read that chapter in order to go forward. And I think the investment that the fans get to feel in being a part of a larger story and understanding what’s happening, I think is something that I know Sony would want to emulate.”

Pascal's comments noted, it seems logical to include Peter Parker in the Venom movie. As the first character to come into contact with the Black Symbiote in the comics, Parker has the closest tie to the alien organism. Having Parker introduce the Venom symbiote to the MCU / Sony's movie universe would be a perfect set-up for Eddie Brock to use the symbiote in the Venom movie.

Will Peter Parker Bring the Alien Symbiote to Earth?

Of course, there's a possibility that Sony's version of Eddie Brock will be different from the comics, wherein Brock will be the first host to the symbiote. Keep in mind that Eddie Brock taking on the symbiote first also draws up the distinct possibility of Parker getting a hold of the symbiote after Brock is done with it. In which case, fan hopes for Peter Parker to wear his black suit will be met.

Nevertheless, we'll still have to wait for the black symbiote to appear before we can make any assumptions on how it'll play into Venom, Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 & 3. Yes, a third Spider Man movie has already been discussed. Holland revealed the interesting tidbit in an interview with AlloCine:

"There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies… Yeah, there’ll be Spider-Man 2 and 3, it won’t be Homecoming 2 and 3.”

Perhaps the third Spider-Man movie will depict a clash between Spidey and Venom himself. With a potential tie-in between Peter Parker and the Venom universe being established, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the two superheroes clashing in a climactic battle. But before that can take place, an origin for the Venom symbiote needs to be established. And in all likeliness, the symbiote attaching itself to Parker during Avengers: Infinity War seems like the best way to get the alien parasite to Earth in a plausible manner.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 8, 2018.

Venom opens in theaters on October 5, 2018.
