After 17 years, the Wolverine has finally been put to rest. The saga that started with Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000) concluded with a remarkable sendoff in #Logan. Jackman's final outing as the iconic Wolverine was arguably one of the best performances of Jackman's career. More importantly, Jackman has passed Wolverine's mantle onto a new clawed hero in the making: #X23.

What direction will an X-23 spin-off go?

Overnight, X-23 became a fan favorite character, giving us a new clawed mutant to carry the X-Men franchise. James Mangold, director of Logan has even talked about developing a potential X-23 spin-off movie. Here's what Mangold had to say:

"I think Dafne is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that character (X-23) and that's certainly something I'd be involved in."

As for which direction a X-23 spinoff could go, it's up in the air. Though, the most plausible scenario will see X-23 joined by her new mutant comrades from Logan.

Will the new mutants from 'Logan' join X-23 in her spin-off movie?

If you recall, the conclusion of Logan saw X-23 and the mutant children from Transigen labs walking off into the sunset. There was no indication of where they'd go after burying Wolverine but they're likely going to stick together for the time being. With that in mind, the mutant children who were part of X-23's group in Logan could follow her into the aforementioned spin-off.

Both Keen and Mangold have expressed their interest in working together on an X-23 spin-off so bringing back the mutant children from Logan might also be considered. There's also inherent logic in bringing back the new mutants since their connection to each other in Logan seemed to emphasize an unbreakable loyalty.

Of course, we should assume there may be some casualties along the way, resulting in the group becoming smaller but the most logical of the mutant children to join X-23 would be Rictor.

Could Rictor join X-23 in her next adventure?

Rictor (Jason Genao) was the young mutant with the ability to create seismic waves. He's the only young mutant from Logan who also has an origin in the comics, making him the likeliest to return. However, we can't count out the possibility of the other six mutant children joining X23 as well, regardless of their unique origins.

However, it's still too early to tell if any of the new mutants introduced in Logan will ever be seen again. Even if they do happen to make a second appearance, the new mutants probably won't be the same versions depicted in Logan. They'll likely be portrayed as more mature versions of themselves which would call for the characters being recast. Whatever the case, it seems quite plausible for the new mutants from Logan to join X23 once again. With Mangold's interest in the project, the new mutants are all but assured to return.
