Winning At Fandom At Any Age: The Cosplay Parents

This retired couple, now cosplaying our favorite fictional duos, prove you're never too grown up to do what you love.

It's a dog-eat-dog world, right? You're an adult now. Being an adult means letting things go. And the first things to go are silly hobbies like geeking out over your beloved fandoms, going to conventions — or dressing up like your favorite characters! It's sad, but if you're ever going to be a productive member of society, you're just going to have to.

Nah, sorry, I can't keep that up, either gonna laugh or cry. Getting rid of fandom is like getting rid of joy. And you're never too old for joy. Cosplay, cons, and everything else that makes our little fan hearts sing — they're for everyone. Sometimes we just need reminding.

Marvel's Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter

I have to say, I'm impressed by the subtler details as much as the eye-catching, vintage-style iconic shield. It's often the small but vitally important props and accessories that make a cosplay stand out from the crowd. And we've got them here in spades. Check out the detail pics!

Look close at the photos in the ID cards here for Director Margaret Carter and Field Officer Steve Rogers. I love it. And below, some behind-the-scenes work-in-progress shots of the making of the early Captain America shield and helmet. Seeing the process behind cosplay projects like these is always really interesting and fun, and gives us a greater appreciation for the polished creations we see walking convention floors.

Lt. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia

OK, this might be my favorite picture. There's something about seeing these dedicated cosplayers standing right next to the "originals" (amazing recreations in themselves) that shows just how well they've captured these characters' likenesses. That, and it feels like two parallel universes (one regular, one human version) just got squished together by some sci-fi anomaly, so now the doubles have to team up to fight some extra-evil plot or something. I'd watch it.

Carl and Ellie from Up

More amazing recreations with meticulous attention to detail! You know what else I like about this alternate-universe interpretation? The lack of soul-crushing sadness. It's wonderful to see Carl and Ellie having more amazing adventures.

Mary Poppins and Burt

Look — even got the parrot umbrella. There is nothing about this that doesn't make me smile, both as a cosplay enthusiast and, you know, human being.

I can't wait to see what they come up with next. Their twitter bio says they're also fans of Star Wars, and they belong to House Gryffindor, so maybe we can look forward to something from Hogwarts or a galaxy far, far away, pretty soon.
