With Margot Robbie In Control Of The Harley Quinn Spinoff, You Can Kiss Her Skimpy 'Suicide Squad' Costume Goodbye

After citing problems with her outfit in 'Suicide Squad,' Margot Robbie says goodbye to Harley Quinn's skimpy attire.

Fans across the internet were dismayed when it turned out that #HarleyQuinn wouldn't be wearing her iconic jester outfit in Suicide Squad, though it didn't stop the costume from being this year's number one selling Halloween costume.

The costume itself drew a lot of criticism. #MargotRobbie, the actress who portrayed her in the film, had her own issues with the costume and openly admitted to feeling uncomfortable and self-conscious while wearing it, telling the New York Times that:

"As Margot, no, I don’t like wearing that. I’m eating burgers at lunchtime, and then you go do a scene where you’re hosed down and soaking wet in a white T-shirt, it’s so clingy and you’re self-conscious about it."

And some have pointed out that the camera work certainly didn't do Robbie any favors or empower the character, with the close-up T&A shots in the tiny costume. With so many people having issues with how skimpy it was, even going so far as to call her "Whorely Quinn," and how far removed it was from how Harley has looked even in her recent comics, Robbie has drawn a line:

“I’m not wearing hot pants next time.”

It does appear that Margot has more say in how the character will be portrayed in the future, given that she will be an executive producer on the upcoming Harley Quinn solo film, which will be much more female empowering, including the lethal, all-female team of the #DC Universe, the #BirdsofPrey, which included, among others, Batgirl, Black Canary and Huntress in comic book lore. With a new writer in Christina Hodson, as well, it looks as though Harley will be much more than a bottle blonde meant to be eye candy, but a character who can really come into her own once she breaks away from the #Joker and the Suicide Squad, much like she has in her solo comics for the New 52.

See Alss a fan of the classic look, I am curious to see what they will pull out in the future - possibly a look that is closer to what she wears in the Arkham video games? Or even the still sexy but not skimpy costume we see in the panel above? While her costume has been a hot button issue from day one, it is safe to say that Margot did the role justice, booty shorts or no. And, hopefully, she'll continue to push for the character's evolution while owning the role.
