What Is DC's Follow Up?

Wonder Woman opened this past weekend with a weekend gross of $103 Million and a worldwide gross of $228 Million. The first female-lead superhero movie to accomplish this feat. It is also the first DCEU movie to receive positive reviews. Let's face it, the start of the DCEU has had its critics and Wonder Woman is the soft reboot it needed to survive because if this movie failed the DCEU would be dead in the water. Now that Wonder Woman was a box office and critical success, DC and Warner Bros. need to keep the momentum going with Justice League coming out in November. But does DC or Warner Bros. have a clear cut plan going forward?

Because they still have some bumps in the road to get over, like Ben Affleck's falling out with Warner Bros. after his Prohibition-era gangster film Live By Night didn't do well at the box office, Rick Famuyiwa dropping out as director of The Flash due to creative differences and the developmental hell that are Shazam, Cyborg, and Green Lantern Corps. After Justice League is released, the only other movie that is sure to be released in theaters is Aquaman. Warner Bros. has reportedly set plans into motion for The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, and Batgirl but all other DCEU projects are TBA. With the success of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. can not go forward without a plan. They need to have directors, actors, and writers locked into contracts and ready to do these projects. Something Marvel does so well.

So, yes Wonder Woman was a success, but what's next? First DC and Warner Bros. shouldn't waste their time on projects like Gotham City Sirens. They should focus on building a universe of superheroes and it should start and end with Superman. Warner Bros. should start production on The Batman in 2018 for 2019 release and introduce Batgirl in that film in order to set up the Joss Whedon directed Batgirl film. Next Warner Bros. should focus on making movies about one-off characters like Blue Beetle, Doctor Fate, and Vixen to get those characters established in the DCEU storyline. Then for 2020 Warner Bros. should put out The Flash, Wonder Woman 2, and a Green Arrow/Black Canary film. For 2021 Warner Bros. should release Shazam, Green Lantern Corps, and Suicide Squad 2. Then after DC and Warner Bros. has established its secondary characters into the DCEU they can go back to its core characters with Justice League 2. After that Warner Bros. should release big screen versions of Under The Red Hood, Flashpoint, and Throne of Atlantis. Then Warner Bros. should introduce Damien Wayne into the DCEU with a big screen version of Son of Batman and then after that Warner Bros. should release a Justice League vs. Suicide Squad movie. Then Warner Bros. should finish off the DCEU with some big event movies.

First Warner Bros. should release a big screen version of Death of the Family, which would be Batman's final encounter with The Joker. Crisis on Infinite Earth would be next but instead of following the storyline from the comic, the movie would be about The Justice League's final encounter with Darkseid. Next would be a big screen version of Injustice with a new storyline about how the League's encounter with Darkseid has changed them and made them grow further apart. Man of Steel 2 would be the final installment in the DCEU. Which would follow Superman's redemption back to being Earth's greatest hero as he fights off an attack from Brainiac. This is the plan that DC and Warner Bros. should follow in order to capitalize off of the success of Wonder Woman.
