The official reveal of Disney XD's latest blast from the past, DuckTales, at San Diego Comic-Con was everything that an aging fan of the original cartoon could have hoped for. Cast members David Tennant, Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, Kate Micucci and Beck Bennett were on hand for the panel, and the official #SDCC2017 trailer is pure nostalgic bliss:

The entire cast understands everything that made the original DuckTales special, from the spirit of adventure to the humor. When asked whether he did any research to play Scrooge, Tennant answered, "I spent the night with some mallards one night."

It's a silly answer, and honestly, it's exactly what we'd expect from the incredible Tennant, but it just matches fans' sense of levity and happiness about it all.

DuckTales aired back in the '90s with another cartoon, Darkwing Duck, something of an avian Batman parody. Fans will be thrilled to know that the crimefighter is coming to Duckburg in the August 12 premiere special. No more details about Darkwing Duck's appearance in DuckTales have been shared yet, aside from the concept art above. EW speculates:

Darkwing Duck was originally developed as a spin-off from DuckTales, but the key link in his return is likely Launchpad McQuack (Beck Bennett), the personal pilot to Scrooge (David Tennant) and a series regular on the new DuckTales revival. In the canon of Darkwing Duck, Launchpad is the sidekick and housemate of the titular hero and one of the only people who knows that mild-mannered Drake Mallard moonlights as the shadowy crime-fighter

This upcoming series has so much going for it, starting with a first-rate voice cast and a vibrant base of fans, young and old alike. We can't wait to get dangerous.

There is no d-d-danger in getting excited for DuckTales, which premieres August 12th on Disney XD. Are you ready to go on a new adventure?
