You Know You’re Old When...

I feel ashamed to look at some of the kids shows I used to watch now because the animation is so bad. I miss when I was a kid and every character looked normal. I’m sure anyone over the age of 15 can agree with me on this. Here are a few of my pet peeves with today’s generation...

1. The map has a son.

Yeah, that’s right. My favorite show as a child, Dora the Explorer, has evolved. The map has reproduced. How that was actually possible is beyond me and who’s the mom? At least they’re promoting single dads.

2. My 'Teen Titans' were actually teenagers.

So let me get this straight. We’re watching TEEN Titans...but they’re toddlers now? So you’re telling me that as I grew up, the Teen Titans went back in their lifespans. Makes so much sense, Cartoon Network. Can’t you at least call the show Toddler Titans? That would make us all feel a little less uncomfortable. Am I right?

These are not TEEN Titans.

3. 'Scooby-Doo' characters actually looked like real people.

Scooby-Doo was always one of my favorites as a kid. I've watched every movie and seen every episode of the original series. This was basically my childhood and Cartoon Network has now ruined that for me.

I don't know what Cartoon Network was trying to do here, but it certainly did not work out. If anything, this is just making us all feel uncomfortable.

4. Remember the stylish rubber bands.

Everyone seems to forget about the rubber bands we used to wear as bracelets. These rubber and stylish accessories were shaped for all occasions. I can remember trading these on the playground to get the 'rare' ones.

5. 'Littlest Pet Shop' toys just aren't the same now.

When I was a kid, Littlest Pet Shop wasn't a show, it was just a series of toys. I still have all of mine in my parent's attic, thank god, because I wouldn't want my kid playing with the knock-off whatever these pet shop toys are. I know the toys are based off the TV show, but I also hate the TV show so that settles that for me.

Not sure what these are suppose to be, but they aren't Littlest Pet Shop, so don't even try to fool me.

6. Kids these days will never know how much we wanted to do this.

Watching our favorite Disney Channel characters make the Mickey Mouse Disney logo made us all envy as kids. We can all say that we wanted the glowing wand to make the corner logo at least once. You know I actually watched a video of how they filmed actors shooting this and it's definitely not as satisfying as it seems. There isn't a wand and there isn't a glowing Mickey Mouse head in the corner. It's just the actor/actress in front of a white screen moving their hands, so actually, I don't want to do this anymore.

7. What does this look like to you?

Yep, that's right. It's Trix yogurt. They don't make them like this anymore. They can try to make Trix yogurt like this, but it will never taste the same. I used to have one at least once a day and let me tell ya, my taste buds are missing this.

8. Everyone forgot about 'Lazytown.'

To this day if I see a rerun airing I have to turn it on. I forgot about this show until I was about 12 and I saw the show air on TV. It brought back my toddler memories and the fact that as a child, I definitely had a crush on Sportacus.

9. If you didn't read these, did you even have a childhood?

I'm guilty of not reading all of them, and if it wouldn't look ridiculous, I'd start from book one and read them all now. But pretty sure society would frown upon an 18-year-old college nursing student wasting her day reading all 54 books and all 34 fact trackers. I can remember when I was little I always liked the fact trackers more than the actual books, but I'm more of a factual, academic person. I guess that even showed when I was a kid.

See these were more up my alley as a child. They were factual books and I can remember the Twisters and Other Terrible Storms especially.

10. Let's not forget 'Maggie and the Ferocious Beast.'

This was another one of my favorite shows as a child. I definitely watched every episode at least twice. One of my favorite episodes was the box episode. Mmm, it was a classic.

11. Once again, if you didn't read these, did you even have a childhood?

Now in my childhood opinion, these were better than Magic Tree House.

12. Kids these days don't know the struggle we had to deal with.

First of all, you couldn't read half of the information on each slide because the ink was either smudged or there was something on the screen. And then your teachers wouldn't know how to move the slide properly so it would be half of the screen. And then you would have the substitutes who had no idea how to work the damn thing. On a side note if your teacher was left-handed, and they had to write on the screen, you were basically screwed if you actually wanted to read what they were writing.
