In somewhat Marvel related news, a Hail-Hydra URL was apparently linked to the American President, Donald Trump's White House page. Quite a few people have mistaken the Hydra related URL as a promotional play for Marvel's Secret Empire series, but that's untrue. The Hail-Hydra.com URL was registered to an unidentified party from Queensland, Australia who is not affiliated with Marvel or any of its subsidiaries.
The URL was registered back in 2014 in light of the release of Captain America: Winter Soldier. The quote "hail hydra" became a casual greeting amongst covert Hydra agents within S.H.I.E.L.D. during Winter Soldier and the Agents Of SHIELD series. Although, Hail Hydra has more so become a trending topic among fans of the comics rather than Marvel movies, with the Secret Empire arc entering the spotlight
The Secret Empire comic arc follows an alternate version of Captain America who's revealed to have been under the Red Skull's influence and has now become a Hydra soldier. With Cap' becoming a Hydra soldier, it's up to the rest of Earth's Mightiest to put a stop to him.
The Hail Hydra URL Is Not Affiliated With the Secret Empire Comic Arc
The reason why Secret Empire has become such a popular topic of discussion is because a majority of comic fans have spoken out against the stark change in direction for Captain America. Though, Marvel did well to address the situation with a statement:
"At Marvel, we want to assure all of our fans that we hear your concerns about aligning Captain America with Hydra and we politely ask you to allow the story to unfold before coming to any conclusion.Obviously, we knew going into this story that turning Steve Rogers into a Hydra agent was a controversial thing, that it would upset folks, and it should. It’s a horrible thing that’s happened to Steve here. But at the same time, you can never totally appreciate until you’re in it the intensity of feeling people have for this character and what he represents. It’s really an incredible thing. The reaction is very much a testament to that. At its core, the story is very much about what makes Steve Rogers such a great character, and what can happen if he was pointed in the wrong direction. It now is one of the biggest contests between good and evil that we’ve seen in Marvel Universe. It tries the heroes in ways that they never have been before. Now we’re at the point we’ve been building to from the start.”
With all the recent spotlight around the Secret Empire series becoming clear, it's easy to see how a Hail-Hydra URL could be mistaken for a tie-in with the comics. What's more interesting about it is that the URL hasn't been taken down yet.
The URL was registered through the correct channels back in 2014 but redirecting it to President Trump's White House page probably won't go over so well when the President realizes what's being done. I'm sure President Trump won't allow for his reputation to be sullied by someone making a joke at his expense, especially when it can be seen by everyone with access to a computer. Then again, the mistake has gone widely unnoticed so it may be some time before anyone other than Marvel fans acknowledge what's happened here.
