Zor-ed To Death: What Has Supergirl Been Doing In The DCEU For The Past 20,000 Years?

With Wonder Woman reinvigorating the DCEU and proving that a huge market exists for empowering female superheroes, rumors are flying that Supergirl will join the Man of Steel sequel. We already know that Kara is already established in the DCEU, thanks to a Man of Steel prequel comic.

In the comic, Kara brought the Fortress of Solitude and the "Growth Codex" to Earth from Krypton when she crash-landed — and her stasis pod remains empty in Man of Steel. So where's she been all this time?

Supergirl crashed on earth 20,000 years ago.

In Man of Steel, the American scientists comment that the signal emitting from the Scout Ship's surrounding ice was "almost 20,000 years old." So, it seems as though it's impossible for Kara to still be alive, right?

Well, there's no definitive answer to how long a Kryptonian can live in the DCEU. Outside of the DCEU, it gets a little fuzzy due to the countless versions of the multiverse. A couple key examples would be:

• Superman Prime in the DC One Million storyline, who spent more than 10,000 years inside of his Fortress of Solitude in the center of the sun — living to see the year 85,721.
• Superman Unchained implies that Superman is as ageless as Wraith.
• On the TV series Smallville, Dr. Fate saw Superman in a vision traveling on forever, indicating that he may never die.

It stands to reason that a Kryptonian's lifespan — under the power of the yellow sun — is far greater than any human's. This small nugget of hope seems to point to the possibility that Supergirl is alive and well on Earth, especially considering that Kara always held the potential to be far stronger than Kal, thanks to her years of training and experience on Krypton before it was destroyed.

So, wheres she been this whole time?

With Kara crash-landing on Earth thousands of years prior to Superman, she could have played a role in the war between Apokolips and an alliance between Atlantis, the Amazons and all of humanity. In the last trailer for Justice League, we caught a brief glimpse of the ancient war when the Parademons first attempted to conquer Earth:

It's possible that Kara played a role in this ancient battle. Knowing that Earth was now her home, it stands to reason that she would do all within her power to protect it — including facing off against Darkseid's forces.

It's possible that Zack Snyder, Geoff Johns and David Goyer have already crafted a narrative for Supergirl. Odds are that Kara will have a place in the unwritten history of the world, considering that the modern world has completely forgotten about the ancient Amazons and Atlantians and the "S"-shaped crest of the House of El.

If Kara truly does have a place in the mythology of the DCEU, perhaps instead of being known as "Supergirl," she wandered the planet, perhaps joining the Amazons for a time or helping the Atlanteans with their alien-like armor and weaponry. It's possible that Kara was seen as one of the Olympic Gods who defeated Darkseid's forces.

Whatever happened over the past 20,000 years, we're pretty sure that she wouldn't have stayed in hiding — and somehow wound up as reporter Kara Danvers.
