Top 20: 'The Muppet Christmas Carol'
The plot fully describes the title. I’ll need to maximise content elsewhere. Great. The story is an affectionate rendering of the Charles Dicken’s novella, with many of the narrational passages being directly quoted by Gonzo. The fashion in which he and Rizzo intimately adress the audience while embroiling themselves in the story through a variety of creative methods is enjoyable and un-distracting. Wisely, the script provides in-character reasons for the two to either be absent or unfocused on in the story’s darker passages to avoid deflating emotional integrity.

Top 20: 'Princess Mononoke'
On his travels to cure himself of a supernatural curse, a young man becomes embroiled in a conflict between forest dwellers and industrial workers. We’ve all been there. A complicated, meaningful, and non-alienating premise in which commitment and care are constantly evident.

Top 20: 'The Ladykillers'
Those ladies certainly were killers weren’t they? They were not, that is not at all the plot of this film. An Ealing studios production in which Criminals lodge with an unsuspecting elderly woman while plotting a robbery. Hilarity ensues. Every layer of potential this premise offers is fully weaponised. The varied personalities of the ensemble cast lead by Alec Guinness and featuring the then relatively unknown Peter Sellers in an early supporting role are endlessly entertaining with their mismatched nature expectedly being the reason. The film is forceless in its presentation of London criminals as eccentric and semi incompetent but nonetheless ultimately dangerous. More surprising is even with the film isn’t directed by Guy Ritchie. If conspiracy theorists wish to argue that it actually was, feel free. The personalities of the cast are well defined and consistent.

Top 20: 'The Nice Guys'
Well those guys sure were nice, weren’t they? End of review. You’ll be wishing it was before long. An ill-suited pair of investigators become embroiled in a complex plot involving a girl’s disappearance and an adult film star's unusual death. That would’ve been the title if it was in any way a good tagline. Shane Black who also directed the comparable Kiss Kiss Bang Bang elaborates on the raw energy, interactions and world from that film to create The Nice Guys.

The David Sedar-Gig
The David Sedaris Gig finally arrived. Unlike my associate, I wasn’t that familiar with him before the event. I basically only knew him through Bojack Horseman – which he isn’t even in. His sister voices Princess Carolyn. Not something he’d appreciate being told during a book signing. ‘I love Bojack Horseman- which you’re nothing to do with. Ok bye’. Loads of strangers approach me saying that. It never gets less surreal.

Top 20: Mirror Mirror
Mirror Mirror is a reinvention of the snow white tale that shows snow white as an escapee of her evil stepmother’s clutches and joining the seven dwarves. The reinvention and expansion of the tale is one of the most appealing features, it’s endlessly detailed, giving agency humour and skill to every major character.

Top 20: 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'
A troubled teenager and an elderly misanthrope are forced to hide in the wilderness. That title was too long so, eventually, they decided on Hunt for the Wilderpeople. A creative and natural exploration of an adventure film that segues effortlessly between sentimentality, drama, and comedy. Sam Neill stars and once again wears a hat. Had the film been advertised like this it would have been more popular, "Don’t miss Hunt for the Wilderpeople—starring Sam Neill in a hat" or, "The Oscar goes to Sam Neill in a hat."

Out of 10: 'Deadpool'
Would ya look at that? Finally this jackass is reviewing my movie Deadpool — Guess all that fondling of someone whose name rhymes with ‘Polverine’ (and begins with W — didn’t mention that, but the guy can’t touch me now) is finally starting to pay off. Nah, it really isn’t.

Deliberately Bad Ideas: Hulk and Black Widow Film
The aim of this is to essentially present a badly calculated, unnecessary film plan that hopefully after communal suggestions will become a potentially serviceable MCU plot. Expect inconsistencies and plotholes, it’s a very undeveloped approximation of a story that needs further complications. Obviously it won’t get made; this is purely fun.
