Running a Free Book Promotion
We all know the old saying “If you’re marketing you’re not writing.” It’s true that the more you write the more you can publish, but if you want to sell your writing you have to do some marketing. I don’t know any independent author that likes marketing, but everyone agrees, authors are taking on more and more of the promotional side of the coin. So, here’s a little bit on how to run a free book promotion using Amazon’s promotion tools. If you publish your books somewhere other than Amazon it’s not going to be that different. Just find out how to price your book to free and off you go.

Book Trailers
Authors of every flavor have one big thing in common. They're all finding that more often than not marketing and promotion is falling on them. For the traditionally published, whether through and small press or a big press, the publisher will often offer some help in that area, but the bulk still falls to the shoulders of the author. Those that are self-published end up with all the responsibility.

Witchy Movies for Halloween
Let’s face it, Halloween is one of the biggest holidays in the US and there isn’t much we can do about it. It’s not as popular as Christmas, but it’s still big and there. So, why not have a cozy girls’ night in and enjoy a movie marathon? Have to hand out candy? Throw in some popcorn and a great movie. Have a couple of free nights and don’t want to go out? You need a movie.

All My Projects
So, there's a lot going on in my life. From mom to writer, graphic designer to farm hand. There's more than I thought there would be, but I'm rolling along with it. I wanted to take a moment and share links to some of my projects and see if anyone else wants to share their own projects.

Backyard Chickens (Pt. 4)
The chicks have been with us for almost four weeks now. They've transformed and are quadrupedal their once fluffy little ball selves. So, I'm going to do an update. Today we'll cover their growing needs and challenges that have been faced and overcome.

Backyard Chickens (Pt. 3)
The chicks arrival and the time since they got here has been a bit hectic. My daughter went from excited protector to a distracted child. It happens. Then she shifted again to mother hen and now back to distracted caretaker. Seems like progress to me.

Backyard Chickens (Pt. 2)
So, we've got chickens coming. (Well, now they're here, but I'm writing this a bit late.) The biggest job when you're waiting on your chicks is to prepare for them. There are a number of things to be aware of before you start trying to piece together everything, so let's go over what I've learned.

Backyard Chickens
It was a late afternoon on a steamy May day. First things first, I don't handle the heat well and early summer was firmly rooted in place. My daughter and I were stuck in traffic. The endless road work stalled us at least an hour every day after school. That's the moment my daughter spoke up. "I want chickens."

Camp NaNoWriMo
Camp NaNoWriMo is an off shoot of the popular NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Both events challenge writers, both new and seasoned, to write so many words. The typical word count goal is 50k, but during CampNaNoWriMo writers can change that goal. I've tried to take the challenge at least once a year since I discovered this awesome community.

It's always going to take work to build a livable income. Whether it's researching trends, building a back line of traffic or staying up into the wee hours following up on leads and sales, it takes work and dedication.

Blogging 101
Blogs are so far out of fashion people are starting to forget what they are, but they're still there, and they're still going strong. The average blog has evolved along the way. They've moved from being straight line journals into personal websites. Some have turned into Vlogs; video blogs. Even social media "influencers" are running a type of blog with their pictures, and short shout outs.
