20 Kid-Friendly Halloween Movies

Parent-Tested, Kid-Approved

Halloween fanatic? Me too! I have a toddler now, and watching scary movies are just not how we can do things. So here’s a list of 20 kid friendly Halloween Movies that are my family's personal favorite! 

These are ranked in no particular order.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

One day Jack Skellington stumbles into Christmas Town. He loves the idea of Christmas so much that he attempts to being it to Halloween Town. His attempts to get the residents to celebrate Christmas instead of Halloween fail. They just can’t get it right!

2. Hocus Pocus

After 3 long centuries the Sanderson sisters, witches, are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween. It’s up to Allison, Thackery, and Max to end the witch sisters before they take all the souls of children.

3. Monster House

DJ, Chowder, and Jenny have discovered the house across from DJ’s is alive! They try to convince people that it’s alive. They search to unravel the ways of the mysterious house, they have to go inside.

4. Frankenweenie

Young Victor’s beloved dog, Sparky, is hit by a car and dies. Victor brings him back to life! Unfortunately Sparky reigns terror with the neighbors. Victor has to convince everyone, despite being a “frankenweenie” that he is still the same loyal companion!

5. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

The Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween while Linus waits for the Great Pumpkin.

6. Casper

A young and lonely ghost named Casper spends his afterlife living in a mansion with his three terrible uncles. Casper hopes to make a friend. A woman hires a paranormal therapist to rid the mansions of its ghost so she can collect treasures left behind. Casper befriends Dr. Harvey’s daughter, Kat. Casper falls in love with Kat, but she distances herself because he is a ghost. Casper discovers the secret that would bring him back to life, so he and Kat seek out to find it.

7. The Haunted Mansion

Realtor Jim Evers and his family are taken to a mansion, they soon discover the mansion is haunted. In attempts to escape, Jim leans valuable lessons about his family he has neglected.

8. Curious George: A Halloween Boofest

George is excited, Halloween is upon the town! He can’t wait for the festive to begin. George and Allie visit Renkins’s farm to pick out perfect pumpkins. At the farm Bill tells them of the tale of No Noggin. George and Allie are determined to get a picture of No Noggin is real, but they soon discover that it may not be the truth.

9. Scared Shrekless

Shrek gets the gang into Halloween festive by challenging them with a scary story contest. The gang learns they’ll be spending time in Lord Farquaad’s haunted castles before a winner is announced.

10. Halloweentown

Marine must help save the rest of Halloweentown from a shadow demon after learning she is a witch. 

11. The Little Vampire

Tony and his family just moved to Scotland from San Diego, California. Tony is lonely, but befriends a vampire! There’s a vampire hunter out there, trying to kill off all of the vampires. Tony must help his new vampire friends to save the vampire population.

12. Corpse Bride

Victor Van Dort is a shy groom who is practicing his weddings vows in the woods. He inadvertently does this in the presence of Emily, a deceased girl. She rises from the grave, under the assumption she has married him.

13. ParaNorman

Norman Babcock is able to speak to the dead. No one who is living believes in his abilities. After a few events Norman must take on the paranormal!

14. Hotel Transylvania

Dracula, who operates a resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective father mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for his daughter.

15. Hotel Transylvania 2

Dracula and his friends try to bring out the monster in his half human, half vampire grandson in order to keep Mavis from leaving the hotel.

16. Mom’s Got A Date with a Vampire

Adam and his friend Duffy have gotten tickets to the Headless Horseman concert, while sister Chelsea has a date with her boyfriend. Problem is they are both grounded. The two will do whatever they can to get their mom out of the house. They get her a date with a mysterious man. Everything seems to be going well, until little brother Taylor realizes the date is vampire.

17. The Addam’s Family (1991)

Uncle Fester has been missing for 25 years. A doctor finds out and introduces a fake Uncle, attempting to get money out of the Addam’s family. The fake uncle adapts very well to the strange family. Can the doctor carry out her evil plans and take over the Addams Family's fortune?

18. E.T.

Aliens visit Earth, one of them becomes lost and left behind. Elliot finds this alien, they begin to talk to each other in different ways. E.T. learns about Earth and Elliot leans the meaning of friendship. E.T. must go home, Elliot has to help him.

19. Ghostbusters

Three odd scientists kick off their new positions at a university in New York studying the occult. They set up shop in an old firefighter house, becoming the Ghostbusters. They trap ghosts, spirits, and poltergeists for money. When evil strikes New York, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!

20. James and the Giant Peach

James’ life changes drastically when his parents are killed and he has to live with terrible relatives. An enormous peach starts to grow in the garden, after coming into contact with a spider. James and his new bug friends set off on an adventure to New York.

These are just a few of our household's favorite movies! Tested out by our (almost) 3 year old son! Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2 are by far his favorites.
