Who will be the next Ghost Rider?

The future is an undiscovered country - at least until you get to a Comic Con! Every company prepares a wealth of spoilers for SDCC, knowing that it's a tremendous opportunity to get fans seriously excited about what's in the works. Marvel is no exception; so just what can we hope to learn from their panels at SDCC?

1. MORE INFORMATION ON GHOST RIDER'S ROLE IN AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.!

It looks certain that Ghost Rider is coming to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Given that tweet was tagged with #SDCC, it's also certain that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel is going to give us some concrete information!

Which Ghost Rider will it be? The evidence so far strongly suggests we're about to see Robbie Reyes, but official confirmation would be great. What role will he play? Will S.H.I.E.L.D. reference previous Ghost Riders, perhaps even absorbing 2007's Ghost Rider and 2012's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance into the MCU? After all, Marvel seem unwilling to retread ground already explored in other films, so doing so would cost Marvel nothing...

2. WHAT ARE MARVEL'S PLANS FOR BLADE?

Promotional art for Blade the Hunter!

Just two months ago, rumors first began to emerge that Marvel had something in the works for Ghost Rider. Now, it's worth noting that these rumors suggested a Netflix series, so they've not been entirely right, but it can't be a coincidence that Ghost Rider's about to make his MCU debut so shortly after them. Those same rumors tied Ghost Rider to Blade, hinting that Marvel may be about to kick their plans into motion for the vampire hunter.

A year ago now, Marvel teased a comic called Blade the Hunter, with a pretty cool concept. There were initial rumors that Marvel Entertainment liked the idea for a possible Blade Netflix series, but the comic was actually never published; whenever Marvel officials have been asked about it, they've simply responded with a "wait and see". Will we see Blade the Hunter announced at last?

3. WHAT ABOUT THAT BLACK WIDOW MOVIE?

When will we get a solo movie?

Marvel fans have been clamouring for a Black Widow movie pretty much since Iron Man 2. Nathan Edmondson - writer of the Black Widow comic that ended last year - even penned a script and published the first few pages online in the hopes of catching Marvel Studios's eye. With Marvel Studios no longer reporting to Ike Perlmutter, who was notoriously wary of female superhero leads, a lot of key figures in Marvel have started talking about this long-awaited Black Widow movie.

But when will Marvel put their money where their mouth is? When will Marvel sign up Scarlett Johansson for a solo film, and give Marvel fans the movie we've been longing for?

4. TELL US MORE ABOUT THE SPIDER-MAN UNIVERSE!

Here come the spiders!

Marvel and Sony have reached an accord over Spider-Man, and plan to broaden his universe out. And why shouldn't they? There are countless Spider-Man characters who could easily hold their own as part of the MCU! Matters may be a little more complicated than we first thought, though, with Sony discussing the possibility of a Venom film and a Silver Sable movie, apparently unrelated to the MCU.

So how will Marvel expand the Spider-Man universe, and which characters will be added into it? These announcements may change the shape of Phase Three and early Phase Four; after all, we know that early drafts of the Marvel / Sony deal included a commitment to doing a new Spider-Man film every two years. If that hasn't changed, then the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will likely hit by 2019, and these other films - based in the Spider-Man universe - could start even sooner.

5. WHAT ROLE WILL THE SENTRY PLAY IN THE MCU?

Justin Kucsulain's Instagram post hints that the Sentry may soon be entering the MCU. Will it be in the movies, or - as I've suggested - in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? How will the balance between the Sentry's two personas - the Sentry and the Void - be played out? Given this post was published only a few weeks before SDCC, I'm hoping we're about to find out!

6. WHAT ABOUT THOSE OTHER MARVEL TV SHOWS?

An exciting new show!

The cancellation of Agent Carter and the decision not to go ahead with Marvel's Most Wanted mean that Marvel's non-Netflix TV slate has been reduced to just Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But Marvel has some great pitches out there - from Cloak and Dagger to Damage Control - and it's surely time for these shows to hit the small screen.

Will we hear more about Cloak and Dagger, reportedly under development at Freeform? How long do we have to wait for Damage Control? Surely it's time for some answers!

So there you have it! With SDCC kicking off on July 21st, we're sure to see Marvel step into the spotlight once again. From Ghost Rider to Blade, from Cloak and Dagger to Black Widow, there are a lot of fan-pleasing announcements that Marvel could make. Here at Movie Pilot, we'll make sure you're kept up-to-date!

Which of these would you be most excited about?
