After hunting far and wide (pun intended) for a new book series to read, I had finally found a book series that had a majority of good reviews but also had some bad reviews, so I was eager to read and share my thoughts. The reason it took me so long to find a new series to read is because I am one of those people who read the whole series no matter what, even if it significantly declines in quality.

Now, I’ve never been one for fantasy books. I have always preferred ones that aren’t about magic as I feel I can relate to them more than I can of books including magic, due to the sad fact that I don’t not have magical abilities. This book did not let down the reviews that persuaded me to read it, and now I am finally sharing my thoughts and opinions.

So, this book was very commonly compared to Beauty and the Beast as part of the plot is about a family who lose all their riches, after their mother dies and the youngest daughter has to look after the entire family including hunting for food. During a hunt, she accidentally kills a high fae, and another high fae comes to capture her. Her captor, Tamlin, is leader of the spring court and has a bejewelled mask that conceals most of his face, bar his eyes. Tamlin allows Feyre to pay back her debts (of killing the high fae) by staying in the spring court and not going back to her family.

In my opinion, I don’t think it can be compared to Beauty and the Beast as it is a great book in its own right. It focuses not only on the romantic tension between Feyre and Tamlin, but also and mainly on the war between humans and faeries. This book had a lot of information to take in as there were lots of different things being introduced e.g. characters, magical creatures, places. When I read this book I did not associate with Beauty and the Beast at all until I had read other reviews that felt it was very similar. I feel that Sarah J. Maas really outdid herself with this book. It was so engaging despite having a bit of a slow start to it. Once I had gotten into this book I could not put it down and finished it in a matter of hours.

After finishing this book I was so eager to get my hands on the second book out of the series. Sadly, I am still yet to get hold of it.

To finish on a positive note, I would 10/10 recommend this book to everyone.
