Adding Diesel To The Fire: Vin Diesel Says That Marvel Not Making 'Inhumans' Film Is A Huge Mistake

It was supposed to be Marvel's middle finger to Fox's X-Men, but the hopes of the Inhumans joining the likes of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy anytime soon has seemingly been dashed against the rocks. Speaking out on the issue, actor #VinDiesel is more than a little critical of #Marvel for seemingly giving up on bringing the #Inhumans to cinemas:

"I don’t think Marvel should abandon their opportunity to make a film out of it. I think it could be a huge, huge saga, and if I had more time I would go over to Marvel and have that very conversation. But I think it would be a big mistake for Marvel to abandon their ambitions or their objective or their goals of making it into a film because it would make such a cool universe."

Diesel petitioned for some time to play the team's leader, Black Bolt, and was once attached to the movie outing for the Inhuman Royal Family. With the project ditched from Marvel's slate in favor of a TV series about the heroes, Diesel's involvement looks less and less likely. Admittedly, he could take a pay cut, but we know Vin ain't gonna do that.

An Inhuman Injustice

Making Inhumans has been a long and complicated process, originally announced in 2014 as one of the closing films for the studio's Phase 3, then vanishing when Kevin Feige took control over Ike Perlmutter, it remains unclear why Feige removed Inhumans from #Marvel's slate, but at least the TV project is going full-steam ahead.

The Inhumans remain a pet project of Perlmutter, who will instead bring them to our screens at home in September 2017. The Inhuman Royal Family was first mentioned (but never) seen in the second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Joss Whedon promises we will see more and more of the classic characters in the show's fourth season, noting that the cancellation of the feature film gave him "a little more freedom."

As for the Inhumans solo series, it will be helmed by Dexter's Scott Buck in conjunction with ABC, and will mark the first televisual team-up between a show and IMAX. No actors have been announced, but we do know that Roel Reiné will direct the first two episodes of the eight-part series. The Inhumans focuses on a team led by Black Bolt, a supreme being whose booming voice has the power to destroy cities. Premiering in 1965, the Inhumans appeared alongside the Fantastic Four, but despite a cult following, have flown under the radar of recent superhero hype. The hope was that a feature film would bolster the team's popularity and bring them into the mainstream Marvel universe.

If Diesel really does think so highly of the project, then perhaps he should take part in the TV show? Given the reported success of xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and his part as lovable (but stoic) Groot in #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy, Diesel is up there with Dwayne Johnson as one of Hollywood's biggest action stars at the moment. Having such a big name on board for the show would certainly bring more interest to the project, which at the moment is one of Marvel's least-known entities. Who knows though, we have seen the likes of Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson transition from cinema to TV (and back), so bringing the Inhumans to cinemas is still more than possible — just not yet!
