What is it?

In this article, I discuss what anime is and suggest different anime for you to check out.

Who's it for?

Most people think anime is just for kids, like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh (which even those don’t have to be for just for kids), but they can be for older people also. There is anime for teens, like Death Note and Sword Art Online, that has a more mature story and theme. Plus, it has more genres like physiological, thriller, ecchi, and horror. There’s also anime for older teens and adults like Berserk, Highschool DXD, and Tokyo Ghoul. These have adult themes and some have a lot more fan serves and bloody action.

How has it become so popular?

You may ask yourself how this became so popular. Well a lot of people might have their own opinion of why, but I think it’s because of how successful it was and what it brought all of us. First, it all started in Japan and now people around the whole world watch it, which is a lot of people. Plus, they even have it on popular sites like Netflix and Hulu and even have their own like Funimation and Crunchyroll, so I would say that is pretty successful. Even some celebrities like Robin Williams, Ronda Rousey, Zac Efron, and many more watch it. Then it also brought us…well Japan and us, some jobs, like the animators and the voice actors. You can see some of these voice actors also at the anime conventions that they have every year. You can tell how popular anime is by the conventions, because the bigger ones usually have huge lines that you have to wait hours to stand in line to get tickets to. People show how much they like it by dressing up in cosplay, which have also became very popular at conventions.

Here are some anime for you people new to it can watch to get into it:

'Dragon Ball Z'

If you like epic fight scenes and super powers, this will blow your mind and you will love this show! It’s about Goku who fights to protect his planet against space invaders, androids, and monsters that are near indestructible and most of them can destroy planets, even galaxies. It has a lot of likable good and bad guys that you would learn to love. Plus they have some amazing powers and transformations. Check it out!

Sailor Moon

Do you like powerful women that kick butt and have magical powers? Well this is for you. Watch them have magical fights and have some romance with some guys. This anime is very popular with girls and even some of the guys, plus has many many sequels, so give it a watch.

Fate Series ('Fate Zero' or 'Fate Stay Night')

This is another great fighting/action series with beautiful animation and epic battles. It’s about these masters that summon servants, which are heroes from the past (Alexander the Great, Gilgamesh, King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, and others around the world) and they all fight each other and the last one standing gets the Holy Grail, which grants a wish to both the master and servant. I would recommend watching Fate Zero or Fate Stay Night first.

Attack on Titan

This is for all your gore and thriller fans! This anime is a battle between the last humans and big Titans. There are only a few humans remaining behind some huge walls trying to survive against Titans, but there are a few of these humans that train to fight and kill them. All the while, the main objective is to try and find out how these Titans got on Earth and why they are killing humans. So if you like seeing people torn to pieces, while some bad*** characters kill them to try to find out the mystery of them, watch this anime.

'Cowboy Bebop'

Plain and simple this is about a space cowboy. If you saw Guardian of the Galaxy, it is a little like that. It’s about these bounty hunters traveling around space trying to make some money with some hilarious scenes here and there, plus it has a pretty good story to it and amazing characters.

'Code Geass' or 'Death Note'

The reason why I put these two together is because they both make you think. Code Geass is a military anime where Britannia invaded and took over Japan and also has control of 1/3 of the world and Lelouch is trying to take it all back over. He doesn’t do it by himself though. A girl C.C gives him a power of geass that let's him make anyone he wants do whatever he wants, even to die, but some conditions need to be met. It’s a great anime with war, military, powers, and mechas.

Then there is Death Note where a Death God drops his notebook where whomever's name you put in it, that person dies and the person who picks it up is Light Yagami. He is trying to make a Utopia but he has to kill some people to do it and one of the leading detectives in the world is trying to figure out who he is and try to stop him.

'One Piece,' 'Bleach,' or 'Naruto'

These were called the Big Three. They were the most popular animes and are still pretty popular, but are very long with lots of episodes. All three have great action, super powers, and great stories.

First, One Piece is all about pirates and some of those pirates, like our main character, can’t swim. All of them are racing to one spot where the previous King of the Pirates hid all of his treasures and the one who finds it becomes the next Pirate King. It’s about all of this and some of those Pirates have amazing powers.

Second, there is Bleach, which isn’t only a cleaning product but also an anime about Death Gods. It’s about this new Death God, Ichigo, and how he learns about the Death God world and helps defeat the bad guys with his awesome looking sword. Also, all the swords the Death Gods have, have some awesome powers.

Third there is Naruto. It’s about Naruto, who is trying to become the next Hokage (ninja king) and it goes through his missions, a war, and some bad*** powers that they have. So try all three of these anime out.

If you need any more recommendations, just ask and I can find one for you!
