Death Note is a sci-fi horror show. In this show you meet a boy named Light. One day Light was at school when he saw a book drop from the sky and land in the courtyard. Curiosity took over him and he took the book home. Light then realized the book called the death note was not a joke. The death note gives you the ability to write someone's name in it and it will cause them to die. Light then decides that he would rid the world of criminals. There is one problem, though. The world's greatest detective, L, is trying to stop him. L believes that what Light is doing is wrong and he is more of a criminal himself.

Light Yagami is the owner of the death note that fell into the human world. His father is the chief of police. This means he can access criminal data to help him kill criminals. Some citizens think what he is doing is great and they have named him Kira. Light likes the name the people have given him so he renames himself Kira. He believes that he will become the god of the new world, a world free of criminals.

L is is the world’s greatest detective. He can solve any case he takes. He and Light have really high IQ levels. This makes it hard for L to solve the case because Light is always one step ahead. L has never been seen before. No one knows what he looks like, what his voice sounds like, nor does anyone except for his butler know his real name. But this case has proven to be so difficult that he has a small team of police, the Kira Task Force, who have actually seen his face and have been working with him directly.

The death note that was picked up by Light was originally owned by a shinigami named Ryuk. In the anime, you learn that Ryuk purposely dropped the death note so he can entertain himself. The shinigami world is a dark and depressing place. This caused Ryuk to get bored. He thought by dropping the death note he could go to the human world and mess around. Once the death note fell to the ground, it became part of the human world. So Ryuk is forced to stay in the human world until Light dies from either his age or gets killed.

In the end, Ryuk writes Light's name in his death note, ending the anime series with a sad scene of him dying. Kira never got a criminal free world. He sacrificed many in this mission, including his own father.

I would recommend watching this series to people who love a good mystery. The Death Note franchise is very large. It has an anime, manga, and drama series. Recently Netflix has came out with a Death Note movie as well. This is a great sci-fi show and is another one of my favorites. There is not a lot of romance. My forever favorite character is L. The anime does not tell you his real name. The manga has more information than the anime. Like L’s real name is Lawilet, also that L might actually have two sons that are just like him. The anime describes them as other kids that also grow up in the same place as him.

Death Note was originally on Netflix but was removed, although you can find the new movie on there still. It can be found on other sites though like crunchyroll and watch cartoons. You should add this to your "watch later" wish list.
