Archer has been entertaining audiences since early 2010, and the animated feature has been a ratings grabber for FX thanks to its amazing voice actors and writers. The show never has a dull moment, and the comedy is up there with the other animated greats of television.

The show just ended its seventh season and is currently awaiting an eighth season green light, but rumors have been swirling that a live action film could be in the works. Considering the show is essentially a James Bond parody it make sense to make a live-action movie. Most people always go back to the days of old when Austin Powers was the king of spy parodies, but Archer has surpassed the Austin Powers trilogy from the creativity standpoint with its crude comedy.

Archer(FX)

Recently The Daily Beast sat down with the executive producers of the show Matt Thompson and Casey Willis to talk about the show overall, but a very interesting tidbit of information came up: Who would play Sterling Archer if a live-action version of the character was ever made, and Matt Thompson gave a very interesting quote:

“It’s Jon Hamm, If Archer goes live-action, I do believe it will be Jon Hamm. Maybe you could do it with Jon Benjamin’s voice coming out of him? I don’t know. Adam is always like, ‘I don’t know if I want the movie to be live-action because I want it to be Jon Benjamin!’ But if it is live-action—and if it is not Jon Benjamin—it is our greatest hope that it would be Jon Hamm. I can say that with confidence.”

Brilliant idea Matt!

Jon Hamm as Sterling Archer would be an amazing piece of casting and Jon Hamm is perfect for the role. He has the handsome look and the comedic chops to pull it off. He already has experience playing a womanizer on Mad Men and playing a rude and sarcastic character is second nature to him.

But, there was another name brought up in that quote: H. Jon Benjamin, the voice of Sterling Archer in the show.

A lot of fans may be asking themselves why not H. Jon Benjamin? Benjamin is the iconic voice of the character and you will also recognize his voice as Bob from Bob's Burgers on Fox. While Benjamin's voice goes hand in hand with Archer, there is a reason he may not be the best fit for the live action role.

H. Jon Benjamin

See H. Jon Benjamin is currently 50-years old and by the picture above, you can see that he is not exactly the "spy type," and does not bear much resemblance at all to Archer in the show. While it would be cool to see H. Jon Benjamin play the role, it would take quite the transformation in order to do so. Benjamin would need to get into much better shape for the role (no offense).

No matter who plays the character though, it is still interesting to hear that the possibility of a live-action Archer movie is in the works. The comedic potential of this film is very high, especially if you get a talented cast that features the likes of Jon Hamm.
