'Arrow': Was Prometheus Trained By The League Of Assassins?

With the current season of Arrow starting to wind down and only five episodes left, we're still no closer to finding out who Prometheus is. All season long, Prometheus has evaded Team Arrow and continues to cause them internal problems, even when he's not around. If anything, last week's episode "Bratva" proved the extent of Prometheus's affect on Oliver and Team Arrow as a whole.

In the episode, Oliver became doubtful of his actions moving forward because he fears that Prometheus might be right about him. Prometheus gave Oliver reason to believe he was responsible for all the hardships his friends faced, which in turn made Oliver doubtful of the way he carried out with his missions as Green Arrow. More to the point: Oliver's internal conflict has made him incapable of seeing Prometheus for who he really is, or rather, made Oliver incapable of noticing the details that expose Prometheus's true identity.

Clues To Prometheus's Identity Revealed So Far

So far, only a few clues have been given towards Prometheus's identity. For one, Prometheus himself said Oliver killed his father. Secondly, he's apparently related to Justin Claybourne.

Oliver was lead to Prometheus by a trail of clues that originated from Justin Claybourne. The final clue that tied Prometheus to Claybourne was a picture of a child, but it seems that Claybourne had no memory of such a child being born. Claybourne may not have had any legal children, but he could have had an illegitimate child living a separate life. If so, Claybourne's illegitimate child could have reasonably taken on the identity of Prometheus.

The other clue to Prometheus's identity lies in his prowess as a martial artist and where he attained those skills.

Prometheus Was Trained By The League Of Assassins

Looking back at a fight scene between Oliver Queen and Prometheus, Prometheus performed martial arts techniques similar to the fighting styles taught to Oliver by Yao Fei, Slade Wilson, Shado, and Talia al Ghul — all past members of the League Of Assassins.

Seeing as how Oliver and Prometheus underwent training from a similar instructor, their teacher must have been a known member of the League Of Assassins. The teacher is irrelevant since they're all dead (except Slade Wilson, who is imprisoned on Lian Yiu). The student, on the other hand, is who we need to pay attention to because that's where the true identity of Prometheus lies.

Keeping in mind that Prometheus was presumably trained by the League Of Assassins, it's reasonable to believe he'll take on one the identity of a known character in the DC universe. However, it's also possible that whomever Prometheus is, he'll be an original character created for Arrow with an origin based around a member of the League Of Assassins from DC comics.

Here are two members of the League Of Assassins who could believably be behind Prometheus's mask.

1. Dusan Al Ghul

In DC comics, Dusan al Ghul (otherwise known as White Ghost) was the rejected son of Ra's al Ghul. Because Dusan was born an albino, he was shunned by his father. After Ra's death, Dusan returned to resurrect his father in hopes of earning his respect. Dusan's suitable host didn't work out so Dusan gave up his own body for Ra's to be resurrected.

As for how Dusan al Ghul could be Prometheus, we need to look at how Oliver killed Prometheus's father. There's a presumption that Prometheus's father is Justin Claybourne because a scene seemed to imply that a picture belonging to Claybourne was of Prometheus as a baby. However, not everything is as clear-cut as it seems.

That picture may have been of Prometheus as a child, but that doesn't mean he's Claybourne's son. Even if Prometheus is Clabourne's son, he could still believably be Dusan al Ghul underneath that mask. Presumably, since Prometheus didn't grow up as Claybourne's legitimate child, it can be assumed that he was probably given to someone who took him to Nanda Parbat, the home of the League Of Assassins.

Dusan could have been brought up as an adopted son to Ra's al Ghul. If so, Claybourne's son might have been brought up to believe that Ra's al Ghul was his father and is now seeking revenge on Oliver Queen for killing Ra's al Ghul.

There was also a brief mention of Ra's al Ghul's child awaiting Sara Lance's return to Nanda Parbat back in Season 2. Al Owal, a member of the League Of Assassins came looking to return Sara to the League. He mentioned Ra's was awaiting her return along with a child. Sara was expected to be the mother for Ra's child but refused.

Now, seeing as how Ra's definitely had more children aside from Talia and Nyssa, it's quite probable that Dusan al Ghul is alive as well, making him a viable candidate to be the man behind Prometheus's mask.

2. Bane

Bane is mainly known as a Batman villain, but considering how many Batman villains have shown up on #Arrow, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for him to be introduced. Most people also forget that Bane was once a member of the League Of Assassins.

In the Batman: Legacy line of DC comics, Bane was taken in by the League Of Assassins. Ra's al Ghul takes Bane in as his heir and chosen to be Talia al Ghul's new husband. Bane's role as Ra's second in command in the Legacy comics could translate over to Arrow, in a plot that sees him allied with the newly introduced Talia al Ghul.

Talia made her first appearance on Arrow in a flashback sequence in the episode, "Who Are You." She's made a few minor appearances since then, but nothing of note. Although, there's a good chance Talia al Ghul will make her presence known in the current-day events of Arrow soon enough, which could be paired with the reveal of Prometheus being Bane.

The Legacy comics also had Bane use a cover identity, similar to Prometheus. This could parallel the comics equivalent of Ubu, the secondary alias given to Bane.

Who Do You Think Prometheus Is?

Prometheus has proved that he possesses training and knowledge of someone taught the ways of the League Of Assassins, which means it's only logical for the person behind the Prometheus mask to be associated with either Ra's al Ghul, Nyssa al Ghul, Talia al Ghul, Yao Fei, Shado, Mei or Slade Wilson — all characters affiliated with the League Of Assassins.
